The desert, considered one of the driest coastal deserts in the world, hosts very little vegetation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oneearth.org\/ecoregions\/atacama-desert\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">One Earth<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>A post shared on Facebook claims the desert is not always barren. It includes an image that shows dozens of yellow and purple flowers blooming between cracks in the desert soil. \u201cA rare desert bloom in the Atacama Desert in Chile,\u201d reads the image\u2019s caption. <strong>(<a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/06\/30\/fact-check-bee-hummingbird-smallest-bird-species\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RELATED: Does This Image Show The World\u2019s Smallest Bird Species?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Versions of the post circulated on Twitter, with one iteration being <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Dr_TheHistories\/status\/1517840028403396609\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">retweeted<\/a> over 10,000 times and receiving over 60,000 likes. The tweet claims flowers bloom every five to seven years. This claim is correct, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/International\/atacama-desert-bursts-color-rare-wildflower-bloom\/story?id=80588881\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ABC News<\/a>. During these desert blooms, thousands of flowers can grow in the desert, with the most recent bloom occurring in October 2021, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>The image included in the post, however, was not taken in Chile. A reverse image search revealed the photo was captured in July 2019 by <a href=\"https:\/\/emily-dickey.pixels.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Emily Dickey<\/a>, a Utah-based photographer. The image was shared on her Fine Arts America <a href=\"https:\/\/fineartamerica.com\/featured\/parched-earth-emily-dickey.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">profile<\/a> and the art <a href=\"https:\/\/emily-dickey.pixels.com\/featured\/parched-earth-emily-dickey.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a> Pixels with a caption that indicates it was taken in Utah.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWildflowers thriving in the parched Utah desert,\u201d reads the image\u2019s caption.
