A co-author of the American Academy of Pediatrics\u2019 newest guide to puberty not only says yes they can but that such occurrences are completely normal. In response to these claims, some pro-family groups are slamming the \u201cgender diverse\u201d book as \u201cinsanity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On April 19, the AAP issued a new guide titled \u201cYou-ology: A Puberty Guide for Every Body\u201d targeted toward children ages nine through 13 years old. One pediatrician who helped write the book <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/health-shots\/2022\/04\/23\/1094260259\/a-new-puberty-guide-for-kids-aims-to-replace-anxiety-with-self-confidence\">explained in a radio interview<\/a> that the group of professional doctors wanted to purposefully include chapters explaining radical gender ideology to children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this book, we\u2019re trying to change that language to be more inclusive,\u201d Dr. Kathryn Lowe told NPR.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith traditional puberty education, whether it\u2019s in schools or in books, we talk about how girls get their periods and boys get erections,\u201d she claimed. \u201cBut some girls \u2013 for example, transgender girls \u2013 might not get their periods. They need to understand about erections and those changes in their bodies. So we wanted to fill this void in puberty education so that kids, regardless of their gender, can see themselves in a book and learn about their bodies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Terry Schilling, president of the American Principles Project, rebuked the NPR for promoting the book as well as the AAP\u2019s indoctrination of radical gender ideology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly a few years ago, you would have been laughed out of the room for saying that men can have babies,\u201d Schilling said. \u201cNow, our national media are enthusiastically promoting doctors teaching this to children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group\u2019s original goal was to have the trans-inclusive book in every school in the country. Due to conservative states crafting new legislation that limits or outrights these sorts of concepts in the classroom, that goal is no longer a possibility another doctor behind the book lamented to NPR.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Trish Hutchison, a pediatrician, told the taxpayer-funded radio station that the group \u201cwanted this book to be in every school in the country, so that any kid could pick it up and see themselves and their peers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now, \u201cthere are certain states out there where you can\u2019t even say [some] of these words,\u201d Hutchison added.<\/p>\n<p>The book includes imaginary conversations between pre-pubescent children at sleepovers discussing gender ideology.<\/p>\n<p>One character finds the urge to tell a friend they are trans \u2014 according to the book\u2019s authors \u2014 after being embarrassed by not having breasts at a sleepover finds the urge to let a friend<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>I finish putting on my pajamas and then take a deep breath. \u201cMy body will never grow breasts on its own because I\u2019m trans,\u201d I say, looking at Nancy until she meets my eyes. \u201cBut it\u2019s something that I have I have options for and that I talk with my doctor about.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cYou-ology\u201d also breaks down terms like \u201cassigned sex,\u201d \u201ccis-,\u201d and \u201ctrans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf a baby is born with a penis, their sex assigned at birth is male. If a baby is born with a vulva, their sex assigned at birth is female,\u201d the book claimed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost babies who are born with a penis grow up feeling like a boy on the inside too. That\u2019s called being cisgender (cis- means \u2018same),\u201d the book added. \u201cBut there are some babies born with a penis who grow up feeling like a girl on the inside. That\u2019s called being transgender (trans- means \u2018cross\u2019 or \u2018opposite\u2019).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSimilarly, if a baby born with a vulva grows up feeling like a girl, she is a cisgender girl,\u201d the doctors claimed matter of factly. \u201cIf that baby grows up knowing he is a boy, then he is a transgender boy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nicole Neily, President and Founder of Parents Defending Education, blasted the group for even attempting to normalize any of this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe authors\u2019 stated goal is to \u2018normalize\u2019 these conversations, which is a problem in and of itself,\u201d Neily said. \u201cMany Americans do not believe that these concepts are \u2018normal,\u2019 and they do not want such ideas planted in their children\u2019s heads.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schilling was a bit more blunt in his reaction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is insanity,\u201d the pro-family activist said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndoctrinating kids into believing that biology has no bearing on whether they are a boy or a girl is not just wrong, it\u2019s dangerous,\u201d he warned. \u201cThese falsehoods will have lasting negative impacts on our children, potentially leading them to make decisions that they will regret for the rest of their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schilling, who also heads Big Family, a lobbying arm of the APP on behalf of families,\u00a0 also noted that radical gender ideology should be kept far away from schools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParents largely reject this warped ideology, and at the very least, books like this \u2014 as well as teachers who would use them \u2014 should be nowhere near our schools,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Polling published by the APP from states like Indiana <a href=\"https:\/\/americanprinciplesproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/APP_Indiana_General_Election_3.23.22-Survey_Results-Smart_Charts_.pdf\">indicates<\/a> that Schilling is correct. Despite that, the doctors behind the controversial puberty guide plan to push ahead with their claims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRegardless of what\u2019s going on in state capitals, our jobs are to be pediatricians, and that means educating kids about their bodies and how to be healthy and how to take care of themselves; teaching them about anatomy and physiology,\u201d Lowe told NPR in defense of the book. \u201cThis is what we\u2019ve trained for and what we\u2019ve been doing for many years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies for breaking news, investigative reporting, sports, podcasts, in-depth analysis, books, and entertainment for a reason: because we believe in what we do.
