A Time Magazine spokesperson confirmed the outlet did not publish such a cover.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span>Fact Check:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rajapaksa recently appointed a new cabinet despite widespread calls for his resignation over his handling of Sri Lanka\u2019s economic crisis, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-asia-61138306\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Facebook image purportedly shows a Time Magazine cover featuring his image and text that labels him \u201cTHE WORLD\u2019S WORST PRESIDENT\u201d as well as a war criminal, racist, fraud and thief.<\/p>\n<p>The purported cover is digitally fabricated. It does not appear in the outlet\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/vault\/year\/2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">online vault<\/a> of authentic covers from 2022. There is also no trace of it on the outlet\u2019s verified <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=Rajapaksa%20(from%3Atime)&#038;src=typed_query&#038;f=top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/page\/10606591490\/search\/?q=volodymyr%20zelenskyy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a> accounts. The cover of Time\u2019s April 11 issue <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/magazine\/us\/6163466\/april-11th-2022-vol-199-no-13-u-s\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">featured<\/a> American actress Mindy Kaling, while Japanese baseball player Shohei Ohtani <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/magazine\/us\/6167001\/april-25th-2022-vol-199-no-15-u-s\/\">appeared<\/a> on the cover of its April 25 edition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis image is not an authentic TIME cover,\u201d a Time spokesperson told Check Your Fact in an email. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/08\/20\/fact-check-boston-globe-list-foolish-voters-country\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did The Boston Globe Publish A List Of The \u2018Top Foolish Voters, By Country\u2019?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Time <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/6166054\/sri-lanka-funds-default\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/6164058\/sri-lanka-protests-curfew\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">covered<\/a> developments surrounding Rajapaksa and the demonstrations against him. However, the outlet\u2019s reporting about the Sri Lankan leader does not feature the phrases included in the fabricated cover.<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time a fake Time Magazine cover has gone viral. Check Your Fact recently <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/04\/20\/fact-check-zelenskyy-time-magazine-cover\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">debunked<\/a> a fabricated cover that allegedly featured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
