I would really like to hear the back-story on who these kids were and how they wound up at a DeSantis event. Given how anti-Black DeSantis is, using Black children this way is extra sick.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This mis-use of Black boys is tantamount to child abuse. Given how anti-Black DeSantis is, using Black children this way is extra sick. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/FUyS5GDNMw\">https:\/\/t.co\/FUyS5GDNMw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Joy-Ann (Pro-Democracy) Reid \ud83d\ude37 (@JoyAnnReid) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoyAnnReid\/status\/1517680801403580417?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 23, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Brewer fired back, telling the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/former-nfl-player-threatens-lawsuit-against-joy-reid-for-child-abuse-remark\">The Washington Examiner<\/a> that either Reid should apologize or he would sue her for defamation. He stated, \u201cShe has completely humiliated my kids and my program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just so hurtful, and she needs to be held accountable. She does it so often. And you know, her words and the way that she comes across to black America leaves a stain on all of us,\u201d he said. \u201cI won\u2019t put up with it when it comes to my kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a vocal advocate against CRT \u2014 anything that teaches kids anti-Christ rhetoric and teaches kids to hate and to see each other based on the color of their skin,\u201d Brewer continued. \u00a0\u201cI have students in my program who have gone to school and been told that they can\u2019t accomplish something because of the color of [their] skin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jane Halbritter, whose two nephews were featured in the photo Reid retweeted, \u00a0asserted that both boys, aged 9 and 14, were invited to the signing because they were participants in the American Heroes Program.\u00a0She ripped Reid, telling the Examiner:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>I mean, she\u2019s painting these kids like they\u2019re just little black boys that don\u2019t know anything and could be exploited, like they don\u2019t even have their own minds. \u2026 \u00a0And I don\u2019t see her doing it with white kids. \u2026 She doesn\u2019t know the love we have for these kids, and to assume that we would send them into a situation that they were not equipped to deal with or understood in an age-appropriate fashion, that\u2019s just so monumentally insulting, but it also put them at risk because now they\u2019re this poster child for this and kind of at the center of the storm. It\u2019s terrible. It\u2019s really a sad thing.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>HB 7, nicknamed the Stop Woke Act, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/2022\/04\/22\/governor-ron-desantis-signs-legislation-to-protect-floridians-from-discrimination-and-woke-indoctrination\/\">specifies<\/a> that subjecting a student to a required activity that promotes, advances, or compels individuals to believe discriminatory concepts, constitutes unlawful discrimination.<\/p>\n<p>Ideas of unlawful discrimination include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>That members of one race, color, national origin or sex are morally superior to members of another race, color, national origin or sex.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>A person by virtue of their race or sex, is inherently racist, sexist or oppressive.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>A person\u2019s moral character or status as privileged or oppressed is determined by race, color, national origin or sex.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>A person, by virtue of their race, color, national origin or sex should be discriminated against or receive adverse treatment to achieve diversity, equity or inclusion.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>DeSantis stated, \u201cNo one should be instructed to feel as if they are not equal or shamed because of their race. In Florida, we will not let the far-left woke agenda take over our schools and workplaces.
