The father and son have accused the FBI of intentionally delaying its request for information.<\/p>\n<p>Finders Keepers said in a court filing in March that the FBI stated that its records of the dig included 17 video files and 2,400 pages of information. The agency now claims there are just four videos with no explanation for the missing video content, the treasure hunters claim.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"quotations\">\u201cThis raises the obvious question of whether videotapes were destroyed in the interim,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lewistownsentinel.com\/uncategorized\/2022\/03\/hunters-did-fbi-destroy-video-of-civil-war-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> attorney Anne Weismann, Finders Keepers\u2019 lawyer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s been a pattern of behavior by the FBI that\u2019s been very troubling,\u201d Weismann <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Weird\/wireStory\/treasure-hunters-sue-records-fbis-civil-war-gold-82090314\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in January. She questioned whether the agency is \u201cacting in good faith.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The saga began when the two men reported finding a location they believed was part of an 1863 shipment of Union gold that was intended for the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. An FBI contractor reportedly confirmed a large mass of metal at the site that suggested the findings could be accurate.<\/p>\n<p>The gold, if found, has a current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/treasure-hunters-searching-55-million-025705312.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">estimated value<\/a> of $55 million.<\/p>\n<p>The Paradas traveled to the site in 2018 in Dents Run, Pennsylvania. Rather than being given access to the location, the FBI required the two men to stay in their vehicle while the agency\u2019s officers excavated the site, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI claimed the dig was unsuccessful, but the agency\u2019s secrecy has made the treasure hunters suspicious regarding whether gold was found.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/21173924-finders-keepers-foia-lawsuit-1-4-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawsuit<\/a> \u201cseeks to confirm the FBI\u2019s recovery of Civil War-era gold buried in the mountains of Pennsylvania, based in significant part on scientific evidence of the gold\u2019s existence that Plaintiff provided the FBI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the January <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/21173924-finders-keepers-foia-lawsuit-1-4-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">affidavit<\/a> filed by Finders Keepers, \u201cA few days after the FBI completed its dig at Dents Run, an off-duty Pennsylvania police officer told the Paradas and Mr. Getler that he had witnessed two \u2018Brinks\u2019 type armored trucks supported by two Humvees and a black SUV with satellite communication antennae.\u201d Other residents also witnessed the vehicles in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Finders Keepers alleged that they reached out to the owner of the excavator company involved in the FBI dig who said he could not comment \u201cbecause of the company\u2019s contractual agreement with the FBI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Attorney William Cluck filed a FOIA request on May 8, 2018, on behalf of Finders Keepers for \u201call public records\u201d related to the investigation.
