He was part of a group known as <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TeamRubicon\">Team Rubicon<\/a>, which \u201cmobilizes veterans to serve communities\u201d and to help people \u201crecover from disasters and humanitarian crises.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNFLPA Medical Director Thom Mayer has returned home after 3 weeks in Ukraine, where he and the<br \/>@teamrubicon med team treated almost 350 patients,\u201d ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter posted\u00a0on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CcyIiZQJQvr\/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=\">Instagram<\/a> Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe [Mayer] also helped train 1,700 local medical personnel in critical skills such as mass casualty response and tactical combat casualty care,\u201d his post added.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CcyIiZQJQvr\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\"><\/blockquote>\n<p>Schefter\u2019s post included several photos of Mayer helping people in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThom [Mayer] \u00a0is one of our Greyshirts who was on the ground providing crucial patient care in Ukraine and helping lead training of local Ukrainian medical personnel,\u201d Team Rubicon <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TeamRubicon\/status\/1518661656389111808?s=20&#038;t=yN4nL0LJ4u3QTtqZEgIMaA\">tweeted<\/a> about the trip.\u201d#BuiltToServe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NFLPA also shared several photos on Twitter of the medical director working with Ukrainians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur Chief Medical Director, Dr. Thom Mayer, spent the past few weeks treating hundreds of Ukrainians with<br \/>@TeamRubicon\u00a0and training over 1,700 local medical professionals,\u201d the tweet from Team Rubicon <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NFLPA\/status\/1518661848618336256?s=20&#038;t=yN4nL0LJ4u3QTtqZEgIMaA\">read<\/a>. \u201cWe\u2019re proud to have Dr. Mayer on our team.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, the NFL\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorkjets.com\/news\/jets-donate-1-million-to-aid-ukranian-relief-efforts\">New York Jets<\/a> donated $1 million in relief aid to help the Ukrainian people after Russian President Vladimir Putin invaded the country in February.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese donations will positively impact Ukrainian refugees and their families with essential supplies,\u201d New York Jets Chairman Robert Wood Johnson shared at the time. \u201cThe need for resources is continuously growing. Our thoughts continue to be with the innocent lives who have been affected and all those who are suffering.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday in Ukraine, many people are suffering,\u201d Johnson\u2019s wife, Suzanne, who grew up in a Ukrainian neighborhood in New York and is from a family of immigrants, added. \u201cBecause of this, it is important to us to provide assistance to organizations making a true difference on the ground.
