Ron DeSantis signed a bill to dissolve Walt Disney World\u2019s private government after the company opposed a new state law critics have dubbed \u201cDon\u2019t Say Gay\u201d \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TheView?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TheView<\/a> co-hosts and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ambermruffin?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@ambermruffin<\/a> weigh in. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gHzV4IYF8b\">https:\/\/t.co\/gHzV4IYF8b<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/oh1GpJI1rq\">pic.twitter.com\/oh1GpJI1rq<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The View (@TheView) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheView\/status\/1518639904531664896?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 25, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cSo Florida governor Ron DeSantis is punishing our parent company, Disney, for speaking out against his so-called \u2018Don\u2019t Say Gay\u2019 law. He revoked Disney\u2019s special status that could cost Florida taxpayers $2 billion. This goes against the GOP\u2019s brand of being business-friendly. Now can he win this culture war? Because he\u2019s taking on the mouse, and the mouse is bigger than Ron DeSantis,\u201d co-host Joy Behar began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, there\u2019s a difference between being a mouse and a rat,\u201d Ana Navarro replied.<\/p>\n<p>Navarro went on to claim that DeSantis, in her mind, was just trying to position himself for <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/bookies-desantis-now-a-more-likely-2024-winner-than-biden-harris\/\">future political runs<\/a> and was doing so by championing \u201cmanufactured culture wars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd it\u2019s not like Disney went on an all-out war against this bill. The CEO made a few statements. They weren\u2019t running ads. This was minimal, and he, you know, this war against Disney, and it\u2019s against Disney,\u201d Navarro continued. \u201cThe bill, the law was crafted in a way \u2013 they\u2019re taking away the special tax status where it only affects Disney and about four other special taxing districts. There are 1,844 special taxing districts in Florida, and so it was to penalize and take revenge against Disney for having dared cross a pet legislative cause of theirs. And that is wrong. It\u2019s anti-American. It\u2019s what happens in Venezuela, it\u2019s what happens in Nicaragua.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hostin jumped in then, saying that the specific targeting of Disney was intentional.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can explain why it\u2019s happening. It\u2019s because bigotry is on the ballot when it comes to Ron DeSantis, right?\u201d she said. \u201cThat\u2019s what this is about. It\u2019s not anti-Disney. It\u2019s anti-black. It\u2019s anti-gay. It\u2019s anti-LGBTQ+ plus community, and for some reason, the Republican base responds to it. It\u2019s anti-woke, and woke, what that really means when you look it up in the dictionary, it\u2019s an awareness of social justice. It\u2019s an awareness of marginalized communities. It\u2019s an awareness, and for some reason Ron DeSantis and his Republican base, they don\u2019t want people to know that there are social injustices going on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hostin went on to argue that the goal was to make sure that those people could not be protected, calling it \u201cshameful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt is so shameful that they don\u2019t want our children to know about social injustice. That\u2019s what this is about,\u201d she added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s what\u2019s so smart about it. I think it was a genius freaking move. All you have to do is create a bogeyman, and then say, I\u2019m going to protect you from the bogeyman,\u201d guests co-host Amber Ruffin added. \u201cIt was black people, it\u2019s LGBTQ+. It\u2019s the \u2018Don\u2019t Say Gay\u2019 \u2013 whatever is on the menu, like, if I were to say, your mailman is going to kill you.\u00a0Only I can protect you from your mailman. You would be, like, my goodness. This man comes to my house every day. Somebody save me, and that\u2019s what they\u2019re doing.
