During an airing on Britain\u2019s ITV, one line deemed \u201chomophobic\u201d by critics was altered completely for today\u2019s audience, The New York Post <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/04\/25\/spider-man-fans-respond-to-homophobic-line-cut-from-film\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This film version featured Tobey Maguire playing Peter Parker. During the controversial scene in question, Maguire insults another character (Bone Saw, played by wrestling legend Randy \u201cMacho Man\u201d Savage) during a wrestling match by saying, \u201cThat\u2019s a cute outfit. Did your husband give it to you?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the edited version, however, Maguire\u2019s line is cut to, \u201cThat\u2019s a cute outfit.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>One perceptive fan documented the change on Twitter, causing an avalanche of both positive and negative reactions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cTHEY REMOVED PETER PARKER\u2019S HOMOPHOBIA,\u201d the user <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PaperPlaneTF\/status\/1517947398936535040\"><span>shared<\/span><\/a><span> in the clip, which as of Monday had close to 650,000 views.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Many commenters argued that the line no longer made sense since it didn\u2019t even attempt to be funny. They suggested that editors should have changed it to \u201cDid your mom give it to you?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Others were confused why the line had to be changed at all. \u201cSo many things happen in this world, countless deaths, robberies, and many other things. And what makes people mad is a JOKE in a SPIDER-MAN MOVIE. Learn to take a joke. seriously. And the intent behind it wasn\u2019t even bad, y\u2019all just want something to be mad about,\u201d one person said in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WereAliens\/status\/1518354282919215109\"><span>reply<\/span><\/a><span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI feel like the \u2018that\u2019s a cute outfit\u2019 line doesn\u2019t work without the punchline, and that they\u2019d have been better off just cutting the entire joke, but for the life of me I can\u2019t come up with a justification. It\u2019s not like Bone Saw wouldn\u2019t take offence to just being called \u2018cute,\u2019\u201d another person wrote.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhen the punchline is gay marriage it\u2019s not really a good punchline,\u201d someone else argued.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The \u201cSpider-Man\u201d trilogy has succeeded while so many other superhero films fail thanks in part to their refusal to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/spider-man-no-way-home-suggests-movie-fans-are-fed-up-with-woke-propaganda\"><span>inject a woke agenda<\/span><\/a><span>. The latest installment, \u201cNo Way Home,\u201d raked in $253 million domestically on opening weekend even as the pandemic limited theater attendance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A Breitbart review summed up why they believe the movie was so successful.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cNewsflash: If you make a decent movie that seeks to entertain and move \u2014 instead of lecture and shame \u2014 we will show up,\u201d journalist John Nolte wrote. \u201c\u2018Spider-Man: No Way Home\u2019 does precisely that.
