Wray said 73 police officers were murdered in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cViolence against law enforcement in this country is one of the biggest phenomena that I think doesn\u2019t get enough attention,\u201d Wray said, noting one officer was being killed \u201cevery five days\u201d last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of it is tied to the violent crime problem as a whole. But one of the phenomena that we saw in the last year is that an alarming percentage of the 73 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty last year were killed through things like being ambushed or shot while out on patrol.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWearing the badge shouldn\u2019t make you a target,\u201d he added. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/25\/south-carolina-officer-fatally-shot-responding-domestic-dispute\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Man Fatally Shoots Police Officer Responding To Domestic Dispute, Then Turns Gun On Himself)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/04\/national-fraternal-order-police-attacks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">released a study<\/a> in January showing <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/01\/ambush-attacks-cops-surged-2021-national-fraternal-order-of-police\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">attacks<\/a> on police officers hit a record high in 2021, with 364 officers having been <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/17\/police-officer-dies-injured-missouri-motel-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shot<\/a> while in the line of duty. The report noted that \u201cambush-style and other calculated attacks on law enforcement\u201d were becoming more prevalent, with 103 such attacks taking place in 2021, up 115% from 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The FOP\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/national.fop.net\/report-shot-killed-20220401#page=5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> as of April 1, 101 officers have been <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/09\/joplin-missouri-police-shooting-murder-windshield\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shot<\/a> in the line of duty in 2022, with 17 of the officers having been fatally shot.
