He was then aided by Timberwolves assistant coaches to keep her down on the floor.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">watch the second row, the security guard was putting in detective work <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/09fFb0Zvrd\">pic.twitter.com\/09fFb0Zvrd<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rob Perez (@WorldWideWob) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WorldWideWob\/status\/1518073842605850624?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 24, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>An animal rights activist group, Direct Action Everywhere, which states on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.directactioneverywhere.com\/\">website<\/a> that they are \u201ca global network of activists working to achieve animal liberation in one generation,\u201d has been targeting Taylor\u2019s Rembrandt Enterprises, which owns a chicken farm, for how it supposedly dealt with an avian flu outbreak in which five million poultry owned by Rembrandt <a href=\"https:\/\/siouxlandnews.com\/news\/local\/rembrandt-enterprises-lays-off-135-workers-after-bird-flu-hits-flock-in-buena-vista-co\">reportedly died<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Direct Action Everywhere <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1Y5BY8stTPxSwbhFGgZFTaAVu5B93e-sj0BZDg8tZgaU\/edit\">stated,<\/a> \u201cZemmel\u2019s makeshift referee jersey had the jersey number 5.3 displayed on the back, in honor of the 5.3 million chickens killed at Rembrandt following an outbreak of \u2018highly pathogenic avian influenza\u2019 (HPAI).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This was not the first time animal activists have disrupted Timberwolves playoff games this year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nba\/news\/grizzlies-vs-timberwolves-woman-runs-on-court-delays-game-4-in-continued-protest-against-glen-taylor\/\">CBS Sports<\/a> noted:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>During the Timberwolves win over the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nba\/teams\/LAC\/los-angeles-clippers\/\">Los Angeles Clippers<\/a>\u00a0in the play-in tournament, a protestor from that group\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nba\/news\/woman-attempts-to-glue-herself-to-court-in-protest-during-clippers-vs-timberwolves-play-in-game\/\">attempted to glue herself to the floor<\/a>. Later, in Game 1 of this series, a different protestor\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nba\/news\/look-woman-chains-herself-to-basket-stanchion-during-grizzlies-vs-timberwolves-playoff-game\/\">chained themselves to the basket<\/a>\u00a0and had to be cut free before being removed from the arena. In addition, the group claims a similar protest was thwarted during Game 3 of the series on Thursday.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Rembrandt Foods states on its <a href=\"https:\/\/rembrandtfoods.com\/jet-popup\/animal-welfare-2\/\">website<\/a>, \u201cUnhealthy birds don\u2019t lay eggs, so we absolutely prioritize the well-being of our laying flock. A veterinarian and nutrition specialist are regularly consulted to ensure the flock is healthy and nutritional needs are being met. Housing is monitored carefully to ensure that feed, ventilation and lighting are maintained. An automated litter removal system is also in place to keep the environment clean and dry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They add:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Rembrandt Cares, our internal service organization, provides volunteer and giving opportunities to co-workers through three primary causes: \u2022 Community \u2022 Environment \u2022 Feeding the Hungry We have expanded our reach through a partnership with the Food Bank of Siouxland, making it possible for us to help feed people in local communities. We also participate in a backpack program that provides snacks and meals for children after school.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Direct Action Everywhere quoted Dr. Mike Martin, a professor in University of California San Francisco\u2019s Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, warning, \u201cWe are risking our health when we cram chickens together in commercial poultry facilities like Rembrandt. As we\u2019re seeing, close confinement promotes the spread of viral diseases among the animal population, which increases the risk of a mutation that allows a deadly virus to spread to humans.
