Simmons woke up Sunday with back soreness again,<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wojespn\/status\/1518332364048453632?s=20&#038;t=BnaIQYN_3vLR_398MG7rHQ\"> according to ESPN<\/a>, and the decision was made to continue to hold him out of the lineup.<\/p>\n<p>Nets coach Steve Nash said after practice Sunday that he had \u201cno idea\u201d if Simmons would play, but he indicated that it might not be fair to Simmons or the rest of the team to put him in that situation for his first game since the playoffs last June.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Ben-Simmons-out-Game-4.jpg\"><\/a><figcaption>The Nets ruled Ben Simmons out for Game 4 against the Celtics.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Corey Sipkin<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s a good question,\u201d Nash said. \u201cPart of the decision has to be Ben\u2019s. I think that he has to be all-in. And so that is a part of the equation, that\u2019s fair. It\u2019s not all on Ben. It\u2019s not like, \u2018Ah, come on, you didn\u2019t play Ben.\u2019 This is a unique situation. He\u2019s never played with his teammates. And to go into a playoff situation after a long period of inactivity and injury is not straightforward.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n\t<\/aside>\n<p>The 25-year-old Simmons hasn\u2019t played in an NBA game since the Sixers\u2019 loss to the Hawks in Game 7 of the second round of the playoffs last June. He requested a trade last summer and cited mental-health issues for his holdout before the Nets acquired him with Seth Curry, Andre Drummond and two future first-round picks on Feb. 10 for Harden and Paul Millsap.<\/p>\n<p>Simmons, who has three years and $114 million remaining on his contract beginning next season, was diagnosed with a herniated disk in his lower back in March and received an epidural shot to lessen the pain.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Simmons ramping up his activity in recent days, Nash acknowledged Sunday that he still hadn\u2019t scrimmaged with the team\u2019s starters.
