Lana Theis (R) told The Daily Wire that she and her family has received death threats in the days following a speech by her Democratic colleague, Sen. Mallory McMorrow. Theis said the threats have been forwarded to law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are dead meat, you f***ing b****, you and your husband Samuel, and your two brats [redacted]. I won\u2019t rest until all four of you are rotating on spits rammed up your a**es, while you\u2019re slowly burned alive,\u201d one threat shared with The Daily Wire says.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_372702\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-372702\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lana Theis\/photo<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In a statement to The Daily Wire, McMorrow\u2019s office said that \u201cno one should be on the receiving end of death threats, it is abhorrent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last week, McMorrow was one of three Democrats to walk out of the Michigan Senate chamber as Theis prayed over the session, and specifically over children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDear Lord, across the country we\u2019re seeing in the news that our children are under attack; that there are forces that desire things for them other than what their parents would have them see and hear and know. Dear Lord, I pray for Your guidance in this chamber to protect the most vulnerable among us,\u201d Theis said.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Dayna Polehanki, who walked out of the chamber with McMorrow, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenPolehanki\/status\/1514319894258626565\">called<\/a> Theis\u2019 prayer an attack on the \u201cLGBT community,\u201d and said it was \u201cbeyond the pale.\u201d On Monday, Theis\u2019 campaign sent out a fundraising email condemning \u201cgender-bending indoctrination,\u201d \u201cexposure to inappropriate sexual content,\u201d and Critical Race Theory curricula in schools before singling out McMorrow.\u00a0The email said in part:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>These are the people we are up against. Progressive social media trolls like Senator Mallory McMorrow (D-Snowflake) who are outraged they can\u2019t teach [sic] can\u2019t groom and sexualize kindergarteners or that 8-year olds are responsible for slavery.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>They believe that we, as parents, do not have the right to help our children navigate their adolescence or their education. These enlightened elites believe our rights end at the curb of the school drop-off and we must surrender to the wisdom of teacher unions, trans-activists, and the education bureaucracy.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>McMorrow responded to the email in a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MalloryMcMorrow\/status\/1516453738403143681\">speech<\/a> on the Senate floor the following day. \u201cI want every child in this state to feel seen, heard, and supported, not marginalized and targeted because they are not straight, white, and Christian. We cannot let hateful people tell you otherwise to scapegoat and deflect from the fact that they are not doing anything to fix the real issues that impact real peoples\u2019 lives,\u201d McMorrow said.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with The Daily Wire, Theis said that the language of the email was \u201csnarky\u201d and that she \u201cwould have written it differently\u201d in hindsight. She stood behind her comments on education in general, saying that some educators have used classrooms to push leftist ideas on gender identity, sexual attraction, and CRT. She pointed to viral <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/libsoftiktok\/status\/1514757959984766984\">examples<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/libsoftiktok\/status\/1517294110876520448\">such<\/a> educators online.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reality is I do believe this content is grooming our children,\u201d Theis said. She emphasized that the number of educators she believes teach this content is small, but children and parents are left in a \u201cvery dangerous place\u201d because \u201cyou don\u2019t know which\u201d teachers are pushing \u201csexualized content.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Controversies over CRT, gender identity, and mask mandates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/08\/18\/us\/schools-covid-critical-race-theory-masks-gender.html\">drove<\/a> parents out to school board meetings last summer to demand greater oversight in their children\u2019s education. The controversies have also prompted a slew of GOP-backed state legislation championing parents\u2019 rights and banning certain materials from classrooms. A recent example of such legislation is a recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/exclusive-poll-over-60-of-americans-back-floridas-limits-on-k-3-lessons-on-sexual-orientation-and-gender-identity\">enacted<\/a> Florida law that bans classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade.<\/p>\n<p>Theis promoted parents\u2019 rights in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/documents\/2021-2022\/resolutionadopted\/Senate\/pdf\/2022-SAR-0107.pdf\">resolution<\/a> she sponsored that passed the Michigan Senate in February. The resolution called on Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) to affirm parents\u2019 rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome education systems and elected officials across the country have been disregarding or infringing on parents\u2019 rights related to their children\u2019s education. For example, radical politics have permeated public school curricula, resulting in education that amounts to political indoctrination,\u201d the resolution states.<\/p>\n<p>McMorrow has pushed her own legislation concerning topics of sexuality and gender.
