(One reason Trump doesn&#8217;t have the lowest is both McCarthy and Schumer garner significantly more responses of &#8220;don&#8217;t know&#8221; or &#8220;unsure&#8221; than Trump.)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Even with such favorable results for Trump, they may not tell the full story of public support for the 45th president.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, Trump tends to do better in job approval ratings than favorability ratings. The latter tend to incorporate more personal feelings beyond evaluating a subject&#8217;s performance in office. Throughout Trump&#8217;s time in the White House, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/267182\/trump-job-approval-higher-approval-person.aspx\">polling<\/a> showed the public approved of his job as president more than they approved of him as a person.<\/p>\n<p>The elections of 2016 and 2020 also showed that mainstream polling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/magazine\/2020\/10\/29\/2020-polls-trump-biden-prediction-accurate-2016-433619\">tended<\/a> to undercount Trump&#8217;s support significantly, either because pollsters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/pollsters-say-they-undercounted-republicans-trump-supporters-in-2020-11618353142\">undercounted<\/a> Republicans or because of shy Trump voters who didn&#8217;t want to disclose their support for him \u2014 until entering the voting booth.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the potential for undercounting, Trump is now besting Biden in head-to-head matchups in a hypothetical 2024 presidential race.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2024\/president\/us\/general-election-trump-vs-biden-7383.html\">RCP average<\/a>, for example, which hasn&#8217;t been updated since last month, has Trump beating Biden by nearly four points. The polling analysis website FiveThirtyEight shows <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.fivethirtyeight.com\/polls\/president-general\/national\/\">similar results<\/a>, with Trump beating Biden more often than not \u2014 and by bigger margins \u2014 in polling over the last month.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a new Redfield and Wilton poll released Thursday <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IAPolls2022\/status\/1517174171222093824\">shows<\/a> Trump edging out Biden by two points.<\/p>\n<p>Biden&#8217;s approval rating has remained <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/391973\/biden-job-approval-stuck-low-40s.aspx\">stuck<\/a> in the low 40s for months and has even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/04\/13\/bidens-approval-falls-to-new-low-amid-economic-pessimism-cnbc-survey-finds.html\">dropped<\/a> into the 30s in several polls.<\/p>\n<p>Polling has also shown Trump comfortably <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2024\/president\/us\/general_election_trump_vs_harris-7386.html\">beating<\/a> Harris in 2024, sometimes by double digits.<\/p>\n<p>These results indicate a remarkable turnaround, given where Trump stood just over a year ago leaving the White House \u2014 defeated, impeached a second time, and reviled by political and media elites as an insurrectionist in the wake of the Jan. 6 Capitol breach.<\/p>\n<p>Two months after losing the 2020 presidential election, Trump was impeached by the Democrat-led House for allegedly inciting the events of Jan. 6, 2021. He was acquitted of the charges, and legal experts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/no-trump-isnt-guilty-of-incitement-11610303966\">noted<\/a> he never mentioned violence or called for his supporters to do anything at the Capitol other than peacefully protest the results of the election.<\/p>\n<p>Still, Trump ended his presidency with his lowest approval rating ever, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/fact-tank\/2021\/01\/20\/how-we-know-the-drop-in-trumps-approval-rating-in-january-reflected-a-real-shift-in-public-opinion\/\">29%<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/328637\/last-trump-job-approval-average-record-low.aspx\">34%<\/a> according to Gallup and the Pew Research Center, respectively. His RCP average was in the <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2021\/01\/18\/trump-approval-rating-average-popularity\/\">high 30s<\/a>. Most polls indicated a sharp decline in the final weeks of his term.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past year, however, Trump has gone from the lowest point of his political career to being as relevant as ever \u2014 both as a major force in the 2022 midterm elections and as a potential frontrunner in the 2024 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>In states across the country, Republican candidates have been eagerly <a href=\"https:\/\/justthenews.com\/accountability\/political-ethics\/neutral-party-michigan-gop-chair-advising-trump-endorsement\">seeking<\/a> the endorsement of Trump, who&#8217;s been playing the role of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/04\/15\/nolte-ohio-senate-poll-shows-trump-nod-could-put-j-d-vance-over-the-top\/\">kingmaker<\/a> in many races.<\/p>\n<p>In Ohio, for example, Senate candidate J.D. Vance saw his support in the GOP primary skyrocket and propel him to a 7-point lead after receiving Trump&#8217;s endorsement, according to recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/politics\/donald-trump-endorsement-jd-vance-ohio\/2022\/04\/21\/id\/1066711\/\">polling<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One apparent reason for this Trump effect is that the 45th president is strongly positioned as Republican voters&#8217; preferred candidate in 2024 should he choose to run.<\/p>\n<p>Trump easily <a href=\"https:\/\/justthenews.com\/politics-policy\/elections\/Conservative%20Political%20Action%20Conference\">won<\/a> the Conservative Political Action Conference&#8217;s straw poll for the 2024 Republican presidential primary back in February, with 97% of attendees saying they approve of the job he did as president.<\/p>\n<p>More recently, a Morning Consult poll from last week <a href=\"https:\/\/thedcpatriot.com\/new-polling-shows-trump-with-massive-lead-among-republicans-in-key-battleground-states-for-2024-election\/\">showed<\/a> Trump with a comfortable lead over other Republicans in key battleground states. A new YouGov poll from this week <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/YouGovAmerica\/status\/1516790162017198086?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1516790162017198086%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcitizenfreepress.com%2Fbreaking%2Fmitt-romney-is-at-minus-31-favorability%2F\">found<\/a> Trump has the highest net favorability rating among more than a dozen prominent Republican figures polled.<\/p>\n<p>In virtually all these polls, Florida Gov.
