Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) responded Friday to a report that showed him wearing lingerie by explaining the alleged context surrounding the photos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe revelation of the two photos is the latest in a series of unflattering headlines for the freshman member of Congress in the run-up to the primary in his first re-election bid,\u201d Politico <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/04\/22\/madison-cawthorn-photos-00027286\">reported<\/a>. \u201cCawthorn has seven Republican opponents who see him as vulnerable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The photos were provided to Politico by \u201ca person formerly close to Cawthorn and his campaign\u201d and were confirmed by a second source who was also formerly close to the first-term congressman.<\/p>\n<p>Cawthorn responded to the report by claiming that the photos were taken during a vacation cruise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI guess the left thinks goofy vacation photos during a game on a cruise (taken waaay before I ran for Congress) is going to somehow hurt me?\u201d Cawthorn wrote on Twitter. \u201cThey\u2019re running out of things to throw at me.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Madison Cawthorn explains: \u201cI guess the left thinks goofy vacation photos during a game on a cruise (taken waaay before I ran for Congress) is going to somehow hurt me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He posted a link to the the cruise ship party. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/EE6MOidnQt\">https:\/\/t.co\/EE6MOidnQt<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/XDSmlMiojT\">pic.twitter.com\/XDSmlMiojT<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ian Miles Cheong (@stillgray) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/stillgray\/status\/1517618035242065920?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 22, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Cawthorn posted a link to a blog post that appears to show the event, an adults-only scavenger hunt, on a Royal Caribbean cruise where Cawthorn wore the lingerie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat Royal Caribbean event has you sharing your underwear, putting lipstick on strangers and screaming at the top of your lungs? It\u2019s the Quest game show, the adults-only scavenger hunt that ranks as a cruise can\u2019t-miss,\u201d the post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruisecritic.com\/articles.cfm?ID=2299\">stated<\/a>. \u201cQuest is uproariously fun, supremely competitive, and it\u2019s definitely for adults only, which is why it\u2019s often scheduled after 11 p.m.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cawthorn caused uproar last month after he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/madison-cawthorn-admits-his-claims-of-lawmaker-orgies-and-drug-use-were-exaggerated-gop-leader\">claimed<\/a> that members of Congress had invited him to orgies and had consumed cocaine in front of him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen all of a sudden you get invited. \u2018We\u2019re going to have a sexual get-together at one of our homes, you should come.\u2019 \u2018What did you just ask me to come to?\u2019 And then you realize they\u2019re asking you to come to an orgy,\u201d Cawthorn\u00a0claimed without evidence during a podcast. \u201cYou watch them do a bump of cocaine right in front of you. And it\u2019s like, this is wild.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cawthorn\u2019s unsubstantiated claims set off a firestorm among House Republicans, which resulted in House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) having a meeting with Cawthorn.<\/p>\n<p>Axios\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/cawthorn-mccarthy-orgy-cocaine-exaggerated-e801218d-aa88-4f15-8925-204348711ba0.html\">reported<\/a>\u00a0on the meeting:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>McCarthy said Cawthorn conceded\u00a0some of his remarks were untrue and \u201cexaggerated.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI just told him he\u2019s lost my trust, he\u2019s gonna have to earn it back, and I laid out everything I find is unbecoming. And, you can\u2019t just say, \u2018You can\u2019t do this again.\u2019 I mean, he\u2019s got a lot of members very upset,\u201d McCarthy said. \u201cIn the interview, he claims he watched people do cocaine. Then when he comes in, he tells me, he says he thinks he saw maybe a staffer in a parking garage from 100 yards away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just frustrating.
