But MSNBC\u2019s Rachel Maddow aired an audio recording Thursday evening which cast doubt on the House minority leader\u2019s claim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy gut tells me no,\u201d McCarthy reportedly said during a private call with Republicans, responding to Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney\u2019s question about whether Trump would resign, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/rachel-maddow\/watch\/audio-contradicts-mccarthy-s-denial-that-he-said-he-would-recommend-that-trump-resign-138276933865?cid=sm_npd_ms_tw_ma\">according to audio aired on MSNBC<\/a>. \u201cI am seriously thinking about having that conversation with him tonight. I haven\u2019t talked to him in a couple days. From what I know of him, I mean you guys all know him, too, do you think he\u2019d ever back away?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know it\u2019ll pass the House, I think there\u2019s a chance it\u2019ll pass the senate even when he\u2019s gone. And I think there\u2019s a lot of different ramifications for that. \u2026 The only discussion I would have with him is I think this will pass, and it would be my recommendation that he should resign,\u201d he continued, referring to the impeachment resolution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat would be my take, but I don\u2019t think he would take it,\u201d McCarthy said. \u201cBut I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Daily Wire. Before the audio was released, a McCarthy spokesperson told The New York Times: \u201cMcCarthy never said he\u2019d call Trump to say he should resign.\u201d McCarthy had also released his own statement calling the New York Times\u2019 reporting \u201ctotally false and wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt comes as no surprise that the corporate media is obsessed with doing everything it can to further a liberal agenda,\u201d McCarthy said. \u201cThis promotional book tour is no different.
