Greg Steube, to bar schools that accept federal funds from letting\u00a0biological males compete against biological females in athletic events designated for women or girls,\u201d the committee said in a statement first obtained by The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRSC is committed to preserving female athletes\u2019 legally guaranteed right to compete on a level playing\u00a0field,\u201d the RSC statement said. \u201cThe 50th anniversary of Title IX is just months away and House Democrats should be forced to show\u00a0whether they still support women\u2019s sports. We support the use of a discharge petition to bring this bill to the floor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The move signals increased focus from Republicans heading into the midterms on a culture war issue that <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/350174\/mixed-views-among-americans-transgender-issues.aspx\">resonates strongly with many Americans.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Banks (R-IN) warned in a Friday statement to The Daily Wire that \u201cthe left is trying to effectively repeal Title IX by denying the biological differences between men and women.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery Democrat in Congress should have to go on the record about whether they support equal opportunity for women and girls,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The RSC will file the discharge petition next week, The Daily Wire has learned.<\/p>\n<p>H.R. 426, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/426?s=1&#038;r=5\">Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act,<\/a> would make it a violation of federal law for recipients of federal funds to allow biological males to participate in women\u2019s sports, specifying that sex must be based solely on a person\u2019s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.<\/p>\n<p>Bill sponsor and RSC member Greg Steube (R-FL) called the inclusion of biological males in women\u2019s sports \u201can affront to female athletes around the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have seen this practice prevent talented athletes from achieving their goals; stripping them of records, rosters, and scholarships,\u201d he said Friday. \u201cMy bill ensures school athletics comply with the Title IX recognition of a person\u2019s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead of constantly paying lip service to women, Nancy Pelosi should have put her money where her mouth is and allowed for the House to vote on this legislation,\u201d he added. \u201cBut since Speaker Pelosi has refused, I call on my colleagues to join us in actually doing something to protect women and girls by signing onto our discharge petition next week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Republicans\u2019 support for the measure is a response to increasing efforts by progressive groups and activists to force schools and higher education institutions to permit transgender women to compete in female sports.<\/p>\n<p>As recently as March, transgender athlete Lia Thomas, a biological male, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/marked-by-simmering-resentment-over-biologically-male-trans-swimmer-ncaa-womens-swimming-championships-conclude\">competed<\/a> in multiple races in the NCAA Women\u2019s Swimming Championships against biological females.<\/p>\n<p>The NCAA has apparently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ncaa-ignores-outcry-from-female-swimmers-over-biological-men-in-womens-sports\">ignored national outcry<\/a> over Thomas\u2019s inclusion in the competition, despite criticism from parents and highly publicized calls for action from Virginia Tech swimmer Reka Gyorgy and University of Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines \u2014 both of whom competed against Thomas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe American people are demanding we fight back against woke liberals and organizations like the NCAA that are forcing a radical transgender agenda on the American people at the expense of women and girls,\u201d RSC member Barry Moore (R-AL), the father of two daughters who competed in women\u2019s athletics, insisted Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy would we send federal funds to schools that permit an unlevel playing field by allowing biological males to compete against girls and women?\u201d asked RSC Executive Committee Member Jeff Duncan (R-SC). \u201cFemale athletes have a legally guaranteed right to compete with other women on a level playing field, and this must be protected for the future of women\u2019s sports.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cThis should be common sense, but the radical Left is intent of redefining biological constructs and thwarting the laws of science, all to push their radical anti-woman, anti-science agenda.\u201d\u00a0<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_4533339479681117692MsoNoSpacing\"><u><\/u> <em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies for breaking news, investigative reporting, sports, podcasts, in-depth analysis, books, and entertainment for a reason: because we believe in what we do.
