The lawsuit, which was filed Wednesday in an Atlanta federal court, stated that Leakes was subject to racist behavior and a hostile work environment during filming.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Defendants in the case include NBCUniversal, Bravo, production companies True Entertainment and Truly Original, executives from the companies, and \u201cRHOA\u201d executive producer Andy Cohen, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/nene-leakes-sues-nbc-bravo-real-housewives-atlanta-1235133102\/\"><span>according to<\/span><\/a><span> The Hollywood Reporter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Leakes\u2019 coworker and fellow reality star Kim Zolciak-Biermann is named as a main source of the alleged remarks but is not named in the suit. The star, whose real name is Linnethia Monique Leakes, claims she broached the topic of racist remark multiple times with \u201cRHOA\u201d executives but was ignored.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cNBC, Bravo and True foster a corporate and workplace culture in which racially-insensitive and inappropriate behavior is tolerated \u2013 if not, encouraged,\u201d the suit says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Specific incidents are also mentioned. For example, Zolciak-Biermann stands accused of saying \u201cwords to the effect of: \u2018I don\u2019t want to sit around with NeNe and eat chicken\u2019\u201d during a discussion about attending a barbecue. The suit says the statement \u201cperpetuated an offensive stereotype about African-Americans.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The suit also says what while filming the fifth season in 2012, Zolciak-Biermann made \u201cracially offensive and stereotypical\u201d comments about housewife Kandi Burruss\u2019 new house, saying the neighborhood was \u201cghetto.\u201d She also accuses Zolciak-Biermann of using the N-word and calling Leakes\u2019 house a \u201croach nest.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The \u201cReal Housewives\u201d alum puts a lot of the blame on the show\u2019s executive team, who she says, \u201cdid not terminate their relationship with Zolciak-Biermann, nor take any other meaningful action to put an end to her racially-offensive behavior.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cNBC, Bravo and True foster a corporate and workplace culture in which racially-insensitive and inappropriate behavior is tolerated \u2013 if not, encouraged,\u201d the suit stipulates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cFrom the day the series began filming, NeNe was the target of systemic racism from co-star Kim Zolciak-Biermann, which was tolerated by Bravo executive producer Andy Cohen and other executives,\u201d Leakes\u2019 lawyer David deRubertis said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Another attorney on Leakes\u2019 team, Joe Habachy, said via email that \u201cnot a day goes by that NeNe doesn\u2019t wake up with an onslaught of overwhelming emotions as a direct result of these unfortunate and avoidable occurrences.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The suit also claims that Leakes\u2019 involvement in the Black Lives Matter movement led to her being written off the show.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAs the Black Lives Matter movement swept our nation, Mrs. Leakes \u2014 Bravo\u2019s historically most successful Black female talent \u2014 should have been embraced by NBC, Bravo, and True,\u201d the suit reads. \u201cInstead, NBC, Bravo, and True forced her out of the \u2018house she built,\u2019 denying her a regular role.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the suit, Leakes is seeking monetary compensation for a violation of federal employment and anti-discrimination laws.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies for breaking news, investigative reporting, sports, podcasts, in-depth analysis, books, and entertainment for a reason: because we believe in what we do.
