Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) took the stand in front of an administrative law judge at a hearing Friday over a challenge to her 2022 re-election bid.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>Greene qualified March 7 to seek another term in Georgia&#8217;s 14th congressional district, but just over two weeks later, a campaign finance-reform organization called &#8220;Free Speech for People&#8221; filed a challenge with Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\"><\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>Last month&#8217;s legal filing with Raffensperger&#8217;s office alleges that Greene played a role in the Jan. 6, 2021 and that she should not be permitted to run. The challenge argues that Greene&#8217;s alleged role in Jan. 6 violates a rarely cited provision of the 14th Amendment.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>It was on Jan. 6, 2020 that a riot ensued in the nation&#8217;s capital, disrupting Congress from certifying President Joe Biden&#8217;s 2020 presidential election victory. <\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>The organization filed the 42-page complaint on behalf of five 14th congressional district voters, alleging that Greene should be disqualified because of a clause in the 14th Amendment that <a href=\"https:\/\/constitution.congress.gov\/browse\/amendment-14\/section-3\/\">says<\/a>, &#8220;No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress &#8230; who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress &#8230; to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>Ratified just after the Civil War, Section 3 was meant in part to keep representatives who had fought for the Confederacy from returning to Congress.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>The audience applauded Greene when she entered the courtroom, at which point a deputy reminded the congresswoman&#8217;s supporters that shouting was prohibited.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>Free Speech For People legal director Ron Fein referenced the Civil War and argued that the evidence would show that she was a leader in facilitating the Capitol riot of Jan. 6, 2021. &#8220;The most powerful witness against Marjorie Taylor Greene\u2019s candidacy, the most powerful witness in establishing that she crossed the line into engagement in insurrection is Marjorie Taylor Greene herself,&#8221; Fein said.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>The challenge cites Greene&#8217;s comments in the lead-up to the Capitol storming and points to a Newsmax interview the day prior on Jan. 5, 2021, where she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/?v=220021822949054\">said<\/a>: &#8220;This is our 1776 moment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>Fein argued that, while Greene was not on the Capitol steps herself, she &#8220;played an important role&#8221; to &#8220;help facilitate&#8221; the Jan. 6 riot. Greene&#8217;s attorney James Bopp argued that removing Greene from the ballot would suppress voting rights.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>&#8220;Our democracy is at stake,&#8221; Bopp argued, FOX 5 Atlanta <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5atlanta.com\/news\/hearing-friday-in-challenge-to-rep-marjorie-taylor-greenes-candidacy\">reported<\/a>. &#8220;Right here, right now. Because they want to deny the right to vote to voters in the 14th District. These voters have a right to vote for the candidate of their choosing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>Bopp said Greene met with former President Donald Trump about making objections to certain electoral votes because of concerns about voter fraud.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>At the time of the Jan. 6 riot, Greene was in a dark hallway at the Capitol urging followers via social media to stay safe and remain calm, according to Bopp.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>&#8220;Rep. Greene was a victim of this attack,&#8221; Bopp declared, stating that the lawmaker was scared and confused and believed her life could be in danger.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>On the stand, Greene said that she &#8220;never meant anything for violence,&#8221; referencing social media posts that urged Trump supporters to protest in Washington, DC. &#8220;None of my words, near ever, mean anything for violence.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>&#8220;The only violence I&#8217;d ever seen was the Antifa and BLM riots,&#8221; Greene stated on the stand. &#8220;And I&#8217;ve been to so many Trump rallies. I have never once seen violence out of Trump people. Greene then filed an appeal, but it was not likely at the time of the filing to be heard before Friday morning&#8217;s court proceeding, scheduled for 9:30 am local time, in the Georgia Office of State Administrative Hearings.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>The judge will not make a ruling in the courtroom, but will instead issue a written decision to the parties involved, FOX 5 reported. The primary election is May 24.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>A federal judge Monday ruled that the group of Georgia voters can proceed with legal efforts seeking to disqualify Greene from running for re-election to Congress.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>&#8220;They&#8217;re trying to stop MTG from being allowed to run for re-election so they can do it to Trump in 24.
