Mayorkas reportedly also told members of Congress there are numerous challenges that come along with lifting Title 42.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/08\/marco-rubio-letter-joe-biden-slamming-decision-pull-title-42-enforce-covid-policies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Title 42<\/a> is a Trump-era public health <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/05\/joe-biden-customs-and-border-protection-department-of-health-and-human-services-donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">measure<\/a> issued in response to the COVID-19 pandemic that allows the DHS to rapidly expel migrants on public health grounds.<\/p>\n<p>Congressional members who spoke with Mayorkas told Axios they do not feel the administration is prepared to handle the potential surge of migrants once the policy is rescinded after Mayorkas walked them through DHS\u2019 current plans.<\/p>\n<p>DHS spokeswoman Marsha Espinosa said, \u201cTitle 42 is a public health authority \u2014 not an immigration authority \u2014 and [Mayorkas] defers to the public health experts at the CDC for any decisions related to it,\u201d according to Axios.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs he has also repeatedly said, we anticipate an increase in migrant encounters after the lifting of Title 42, and he is leading a whole-of-government response to apprehend, process and remove from the country those who are not eligible for relief,\u201d Espinosa said, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Mayorkas told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/04\/19\/politics\/mayorkas-immigration-plans\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNN<\/a> on Tuesday that the department does have \u201cplans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are executing on those plans,\u201d Mayorkas said, according to CNN. \u201cI think we have to be very mindful of the fact that we are addressing enemies, and those enemies are the cartels and the smugglers, and I will not provide our plans to them. REUTERS\/Jose Torres\/File Photo<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>A record two million migrants were <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/25\/customs-border-protection-illiegal-immigration-2-million-december\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">encountered<\/a> at the U.S.-Mexico border in 2021, and authorities confiscated $3.31 billion in counterfeit goods, more than 319,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/stats\/drug-seizure-statistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pounds<\/a> of marijuana, over 190,000 pounds of methamphetamine and more than 97,000 pounds of cocaine in fiscal year 2021.<\/p>\n<p>In March alone agents <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/19\/border-patrol-migrants-cbp-title-42\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">arrested 209,906 people<\/a>, the highest number of monthly arrests at the southern border since March of 2000.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration has received <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/19\/joe-biden-john-fetterman-title-42\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bipartisan pushback<\/a> over the ending of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/21\/joe-biden-mask-mandates-title-42\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Title 42<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/21\/border-brnovich-immigration-cdc-title42\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Republican Abs Throw Possible Wrench Into Lawsuit Over Biden\u2019s Title 42 Decision)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should not end Title 42 until we have a detailed plan in place,\u201d Pennsylvania Lt. Gov.
