It does not depict Guevara, who died in 1967.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b>Fact Check:\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Guevara, a Marxist revolutionary, was a prominent figure in the Cuban Revolution in the 1950s, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Che-Guevara\">Britannica<\/a>. A headshot photo of him taken in 1960 has since become a pop culture icon and one of the most reproduced images ever, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithsonianmag.com\/travel\/iconic-photography-che-guevara-alberto-korda-cultural-travel-180960615\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Smithsonian Magazine<\/a> reports.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>An image shared on Facebook claims to show a lesser-known photo of Guevara. It shows what appears to be a black and white photo of a man wearing a beret and military fatigues pointing a handgun at two unarmed women. <span>\u201cTHIS is the image of Che Guevara that should be seen on t-shirts,\u201d reads the image\u2019s text.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cF<\/span><span>or the little communists out there,\u201d reads the post\u2019s caption. \u201cBe careful what you wish for.\u201d <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/06\/12\/fact-check-bill-de-blasio-che-guevara-shirt\/\">(RELATED: Does This Photo Show NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio Wearing A Che Guevara Shirt?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>The photo does not show Guevara. The image can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20171126032102\/https:\/\/www.cispes.org\/old\/History\/Photo_gallery\/theater.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a> of the Committee in Solidary with the People of El Salvador along with a caption that explains it shows a reenactment conducted on the campus of Emory College (now Emory University) in 1989. Guevara was killed in 1967, more than 20 years before the photo was taken, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/americanexperience\/features\/castro-che-guevara-1928-1967\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PBS<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c<\/span><span>The photo was taken of a theatrical demonstration taking place on Emory\u2019s campus to raise awareness of humanitarian crises created by war in El Salvador and Guatemala and of US military involvement in that war,\u201d explained Emory University Archivist <a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.emory.edu\/contact\/staff-directory\/john-bence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Bence<\/a> in an email to Check Your Fact.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Bence included a photo of a 1989 article from the college\u2019s newspaper, The Emory Wheel, that explains the<\/span><span> Emory Central America Network had organized the demonstration, titled \u201cGuerilla Theatre,\u201d which included a make-shift encampment and actors.
