It launched on March 29, with network honchos and consultants breathlessly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/cnn-plus-cuts-warner-brothers-discovery-1be0ac3a-6952-4af0-b8e2-03dd6ae0839c.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">predicting<\/a> that in 2022 alone 2 million people would pay $60 per year to watch Stelter and other personalities.<\/p>\n<p>Fewer than 10,000 people were using CNN+ before the closure announcement, CNBC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/04\/12\/cnn-plus-low-viewership-numbers-warner-bros-discovery.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n<p>CEO David Zaslav of CNN&#8217;s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, said Thursday that he has seen enough. Zaslav was already &#8220;rankled&#8221;\u00a0by former CEO Jason Kilar&#8217;s decision to &#8220;launch CNN+ just weeks before Discovery was set to take over operations,&#8221; <em>Variety<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n<p>CNN subsequently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/04\/21\/media\/cnn-shutting-down\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confirmed<\/a> the closure.<\/p>\n<p>This is only the latest scandal to hit the left-wing cable network, which has seen its ratings plummet since former president Donald Trump left office. CNN last year fired prominent anchor Chris Cuomo for trying to help his brother, then-New York governor Andrew Cuomo (D.), shake off sexual harassment allegations. The <i>Washington Free Beacon<\/i> has since <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/media\/watch-the-corporate-puff-piece-chris-cuomo-aired-to-silence-an-accuser\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that Chris Cuomo was facing similar allegations.<\/p>\n<p>Longtime CNN president Jeff Zucker <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/media\/cnns-jeff-zucker-resigns-after-hiding-romantic-relationship-with-former-andrew-cuomo-spox\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abruptly resigned<\/a> in February after the network&#8217;s investigation into Cuomo uncovered Zucker&#8217;s romantic relationship with a subordinate and former Andrew Cuomo aide. Anchor Don Lemon is facing sexual assault charges.
