Customers who demonstrated egregious behavior and are already on the permanent no-fly list remain barred from flying with Delta,\u201d the company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/transportation\/3275173-delta-allows-passengers-banned-for-mask-violations-back-on-flights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> added.<\/p>\n<p>Delta was among the first airlines to announce it would make mask-wearing optional following a federal judge\u2019s ruling on Monday against the Biden administration\u2019s federal travel mask mandate.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Read the guidance <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Delta?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Delta<\/a> shared with employees regarding the White House announcement on the federal mask mandate: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vWNjlT2Vgs\">https:\/\/t.co\/vWNjlT2Vgs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Delta News Hub (@DeltaNewsHub) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DeltaNewsHub\/status\/1516203705464500225?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 18, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cFollowing the ruling of a U.S. district court judge on Monday, the Biden administration announced that the Transportation Security Administration will no longer enforce the federal mandate requiring masks in all U.S. airports and on board aircraft,\u201d Delta released in a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.delta.com\/masks-now-optional-employees-customers-following-white-house-announcement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEffective immediately, masks are optional for all airport employees, crew members and customers inside U.S. airports and on board all aircraft domestically, as well as on most international flights,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>The number of people banned from Delta flights <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/delta-ceo-well-over-100-people-have-been-banned-from-flying-for-not-wearing-masks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sparked controversy<\/a> in August 2020. At the time, Delta Airlines CEO Ed Bastian claimed that \u201cwell over 100 people\u201d have been banned from the airline for refusing to wear masks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had well over 100 people that have refused to keep their mask on during the flight,\u201d he\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2020\/08\/07\/business\/delta-air-lines-masks-ban-passengers\/index.html\">told CNN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Department of Transportation\u2019s the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also announced on Wednesday that it will make its Zero Tolerance policy against unruly passengers permanent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBehaving dangerously on a plane will cost you; that\u2019s a promise,\u201d said Acting FAA Administrator Billy Nolen said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/newsroom\/faa-zero-tolerance-policy-against-unruly-passengers-here-stay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. \u201cUnsafe behavior simply does not fly and keeping our Zero Tolerance policy will help us continue making progress to prevent and punish this behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the dropped mask mandate, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said on Wednesday that it would appeal the ruling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn light of today\u2019s assessment by @CDCgov that an order requiring masking in the transportation corridor remains necessary to protect the public health, the Department has filed a notice of appeal,\u201d DOJ spokesman Anthony Coley tweeted.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In light of today\u2019s assessment by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CDCgov?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@CDCgov<\/a> that an order requiring masking in the transportation corridor remains necessary to protect the public health, the Department has filed a notice of appeal in Health Freedom Defense Fund, Inc., et al., v.
