And I don\u2019t think it\u2019s talked about enough in terms of our essential workers and people on the frontlines, and it\u2019s just it\u2019s a whole community of us that really want to stand together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Irving has thrown his support behind unions that are fighting the vaccine mandate, specifically mentioning one Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) worker in New York who has taken a stand against the city\u2019s mandate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Tramell Thompson, who has been on disability leave for the majority of the COVID-19 pandemic, has Irving\u2019s support.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cHe\u2019s leading a community of essential workers and people who are unvaccinated or had a belief that they want to continue to live their lives against the mandate and it\u2019s unfortunate to see that people are getting fired,\u201d Irving <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/new-york\/ny-kyrie-irving-vaccination-mta-worker-progressive-action-trammell-thompson-20220417-pmmoi3uiazhwnmrn754cna6dny-story.html\"><span>told<\/span><\/a><span> The Daily News last week. \u201cTramell has done a great job of community together and keeping everybody strong and believing this will change. It\u2019s not an easy job so I commend him for doing what he\u2019s doing. But I definitely support the effort to take care of our essential workers and take care of those who have been affected by this mandate.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On Wednesday, Thompson joined \u201cFox and Friends\u201d to discuss workers who have been \u201ccoerced\u201d into taking the COVID-19 shot.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cEveryone is focused on the people who didn\u2019t take the shot,\u201d Thompson told co-host Pete Hegseth. \u201cNobody\u2019s really talking up for the people who were coerced to get the shot, to pay their bills, to take care of their family, to make sure they don\u2019t lose their home.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe will never find out the true number of the people who were really coerced to get something that they really didn\u2019t want to get,\u201d he continued.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In February, more than 1,400 city workers were fired from their jobs after refusing to be vaccinated against COVID-19 by the city\u2019s deadline. According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/02\/14\/nyregion\/nyc-vaccine-mandate.html\"><span>The New York Times<\/span><\/a><span>, \u201cAbout 900 of the fired staff worked at the Department of Education; about 100 worked at the New York City Housing Authority, the public housing agency; 36 were from the New York Police Department.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cMy job currently has me written up for discipline because they don\u2019t like any of the freedom-fighting work that I\u2019m doing inside or outside of the MTA, and they consistently try to silence people like me through discipline,\u201d Thompson <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/kyrie-irving-nyc-transit-worker-vaccine-mandate\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> on Wednesday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI\u2019m here for a purpose,\u201d he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/kyrie-irving-nyc-transit-worker-vaccine-mandate\"><span>continued<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cThese are God\u2019s plans, not mine, and I will continue to fight for what I feel is right.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i>Joe Morgan is the Sports Reporter for The Daily Wire.
