Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2022\/04\/D2C41B4E-8979-4D5E-BE76-67D0B6BB6920-scaled.jpeg?w=1200&#038;h=800&#038;ixlib=react-9.3.0\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/div>\n<p>The Biden administration is working to rescind a Trump rule intended to protect religious health care workers by allowing them to refuse to provide services which they feel violate their conscience and moral beliefs.<\/p>\n<p>Keeping in-line with the Biden agenda,\u00a0a spokesperson for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/04\/19\/biden-trump-conscience-rule-00026082\">confirmed<\/a> to Politico on Tuesday that measures to rescind the rule are in the works.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHHS has made clear through the unified regulatory agenda that we are in the rulemaking process,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump rule, which was introduced in 2018 and subsequently blocked why the courts, was viewed as a boon to religious liberty, particularly with regard to health care workers opposed to increasingly common transgender \u201ctreatments\u201d for children and abortion services.<\/p>\n<p>Politico emphasized that Trump\u2019s rule would have \u201callowed doctors, nurses, medical students, pharmacists and other health workers to refuse to provide abortions, contraception, gender affirming care, HIV and STD services, vasectomies or any procedure to which they object.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month,\u00a0White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/gone-too-far-transgender-psychologist-admits-spike-in-trans-kids-alarming-become-trendy\">said<\/a> lawmakers who are working to protect minors from puberty blockers and transgender surgeries have been \u201cput on notice\u201d by the U.S. Department of Justice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlabama\u2019s lawmakers and other legislators who are contemplating these \u2026 discriminatory bills have been put on notice by the Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services that laws and policies preventing care that health care professionals recommend for transgender minors may violate the Constitution and federal law,\u201d Psaki <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/republican-lawmakers-protecting-kids-from-puberty-blockers-trans-surgeries-put-on-notice-by-doj\">said<\/a> at a press briefing.<\/p>\n<p>The press secretary\u2019s comments were in reference to Alabama\u00a0banning doctors from mutilating children or putting them on puberty blockers if they \u201cidentify\u201d as the opposite sex, and advancing\u00a0parental rights by forbidding teachers\u2019 \u201cinstruction\u201d on sexuality and gender identity between kindergarten and fifth grade.<\/p>\n<p>Roger Severino, then-director of the HHS Office of Civil Rights, praised Trump\u2019s \u201cconscience\u201d rule in 2019, when it was finalized.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">\u201cThis rule ensures that healthcare entities and professionals won\u2019t be bullied out of the health care field because they decline to participate in actions that violate their conscience, including the taking of human life,\u201d he said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/news\/2018\/january\/hhs-division-conscience-protections-prolife-abortion-trump.html\">according<\/a> to Christianity Today. \u201cProtecting conscience and religious freedom not only fosters greater diversity in healthcare, it\u2019s the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then-acting\u00a0HHS secretary Eric Hargan said Trump\u2019s move at the time was a promise kept.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">\u201cPresident Trump promised the American people that his administration would vigorously uphold the rights of conscience and religious freedom,\u201d Hargan said. \u201cThat promise is being kept today.
