The Post reporter even showed up to the home of the account owner&#8217;s relatives and harassed a random Instagram user with a&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The <em>Washington Post<\/em> is defending a widely criticized article that \u201cexposed\u201d the creator of the viral Twitter account, \u201cLibs of TikTok.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The article, published Monday, was authored by tech reporter Taylor Lorenz, who has come under fire for her <a href=\"https:\/\/spectatorworld.com\/topic\/new-york-times-taylor-lorenz-conway-tiktok\/amp\/\">questionable journalistic ethics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lorenz used information sourced by a former Twitter employee to reveal the identity of the Libs of TikTok account owner, who chose to operate the account anonymously and is otherwise a private citizen. The <em>Post<\/em> reporter even <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/libsoftiktok\/status\/1516403898952695813\">showed up<\/a> to the home of the account owner\u2019s relatives and harassed a random Instagram user with a similar name, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/libsoftiktok\/status\/1516468103982596101\">asserting<\/a> that she was going to be \u201cimplicated as starting a hate campaign against LGBTQ people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the <em>Washington Post<\/em> stood by Lorenz\u2019s tactics in a Tuesday statement to <em>The Spectator, <\/em>which is choosing to redact the name of the Libs of TikTok account owner at this time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTaylor Lorenz is an accomplished and diligent journalist whose reporting methods comport entirely with the <em>Washington Post<\/em>\u2019s professional standards,\u201d Cameron Barr, Senior Managing Editor at the <em>Washington Post<\/em> said. \u201c[Libs of Tik Tok], in her management of the Libs of TikTok Twitter account and in media interviews, has had significant impact on public discourse and her identity had become public knowledge on social media. We did not publish or link to any details about her personal life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Post<\/em>\u2018s assertion that they did not \u201cpublish or link to any details about her personal life\u201d appears to be false. According to <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> reporter Jerry Dunleavy, an early version of the article <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JerryDunleavy\/status\/1516420428574646289\">linked to<\/a> the Libs of TikTok account owner\u2019s real estate license. The link contained the account owner\u2019s real estate license number, full name and possible address.<\/p>\n<p>It is true that Libs of TikTok has amassed numerous followers on Twitter by reposting videos of left-wing insanity on the social media app TikTok.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Post\u00a0<\/em>has failed to properly justify, though, why the account owner\u2019s name or occupation are useful to developing an understanding of why the account has had such an impact on online discourse.<\/p>\n<div class=\"banner_small conntent-banner\">\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/spectatorworld.com\/subscribe-the-dc-diary\/\"><noscript><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload wp-image-29949\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/email-newsletter-mob.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\t\t<\/div>\n<p>Their claim that \u201cher identity had become public knowledge\u201d also diminishes their responsibility as a media outlet in determining if information sourced from social media can be amplified to their audience ethically.<\/p>\n<p>Lorenz recently decried online harassment campaigns in an interview with MSNBC\u2019s <em>Meet the Press<\/em>.
