Rowling\u2019s books from Queen Elizabeth II\u2019s reading list in honor of her 70 years on the throne.<\/p>\n<p>During the emeritus professor of modern literature at Queen Mary University of London\u2019s interview for BBC Radio 4\u2019s Tuesday, Nasta said there were several reason\u2019s that Rowling\u2019s \u201cHarry Potter\u201d series was cut out of the Queen\u2019s Platinum Jubilee Reading list specifically the first installment, \u201cHarry Potter and the Sorcerer\u2019s Stone,\u201d and that\u2019s because it\u2019s \u201ca children\u2019s book,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/books\/news\/jk-rowling-jubilee-reading-list-b2060646.html\">reported<\/a> the Independent.<\/p>\n<p>The professor also explained that the whole purpose of the list is to highlight books that others \u201cmight not have read before,\u201d noting that the Harry Potter series has sold more than \u201c500 million books worldwide since 1997,\u201d not to mention all the billions in profits from the eight-part movie franchise.<\/p>\n<p>The famed British author didn\u2019t make the final cut after the list of 153 books was shortened to only include 70 books by Commonwealth authors in honor of the queen\u2019s 70 year reign.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Platinum Jubilee reading list judge explains why JK Rowling was snubbed <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/iV75KjhNnS\">https:\/\/t.co\/iV75KjhNnS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Independent (@Independent) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Independent\/status\/1516371901823819785?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 19, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe list is a real opportunity to discover stories from across continents,\u201d Suzy Klein, head of arts and classical music at BBC TV shared as she noted that the\u00a0books chosen were those \u201cthat we might never have otherwise read\u201d and \u201cauthors whose work deserves a spotlight to be shone on it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The piece noted that the list was compiled with the help of librarians across the United Kingdom along with input from readers in 54 countries during a search that lasted five months.<\/p>\n<p>Some have pointed out that if the \u201cHarry Potter\u201d books are for \u201cchildren,\u201d then they question why Australian author Markus Zusak\u2019s 2005 \u201cThe Book Thief\u201d made the cut, despite many considering it to be a children\u2019s book as well.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Book-Thief-Markus-Zusak\/dp\/0375842209\/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1ZW978P3A03XA&#038;keywords=The+Book+Thief&#038;qid=1650397265&#038;sprefix=the+book+thief%2Caps%2C248&#038;sr=8-1\">Amazon\u2019s description<\/a> it says \u201cThe Book Thief\u201d is for teens and young adults.
