The rule was eventually blocked by federal courts after <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2019\/11\/22\/courts-block-conscience-rights-for-medical-providers-based-on-outlandish-leftist-arguments\/\">being petitioned by leftist activist groups<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration is moving to scrap the Trump-era rule as states such as Texas have largely <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/09\/02\/supreme-court-refuses-to-block-texas-heartbeat-law-which-virtually-bans-killing-babies\/\">banned abortions<\/a> and sex experiments on children. The decision is eagerly backed by Planned Parenthood and other pro-baby killing organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Pro-religious freedom organizations, however, say the rule change holds negative implications for Americans\u2019 rights. Alliance Defending Freedom is just one of the organizations fighting to keep the administration from removing protections that will cause <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reginfo.gov\/public\/do\/viewEO12866Meeting?viewRule=true&#038;rin=0945-AA18&#038;meetingId=129223&#038;acronym=0945-HHS\/OCR\">\u201charm to healthcare providers\u00a0and patients across the country.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo American should be forced to violate their ethical and religious beliefs. Doctors, nurses, and other medical providers should enjoy this same constitutional protection, free to live and work in a manner consistent with their faith. Yet the Biden administration\u2019s proposed rule would abandon health care professionals to being forced to perform medical procedures that directly violate their religious beliefs or risk losing their jobs. This is an illegal and gross overreach of executive power, and we urge the administration to withdraw this harmful proposal immediately,\u201d Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Matt Bowman said in a statement to The Federalist. <\/p>\n<p>Biden made it clear from the beginning of his time in office that he did not care about conscience-based protections in health care by pushing for <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/05\/17\/20-groups-band-together-to-oppose-bidens-push-for-taxpayer-funded-abortions\/\">taxpayer-funded abortions.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Biden also emboldened <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/03\/18\/senate-confirms-pro-abortion-extremist-xavier-becerra-as-hhs-secretary\/\">pro-abortion \u201cextremist\u201d<\/a> Xavier Becerra, now the secretary of HHS, to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/18\/in-its-first-year-bidens-hhs-relentlessly-attacked-christians-and-unborn-babies\/\">dismantle the agency\u2019s Conscience and Religious Freedom Division<\/a> which the Trump administration created to protect the religious rights of healthcare workers. Later, Becerra eliminated any mention of \u201cconscience,\u201d \u201creligion,\u201d and \u201cConscience and Religious Freedom Division\u201d from the budget and quietly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/conscience\/conscience-protections\/uvmmc-letter\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dismissed<\/a>\u00a0a case against a hospital where a nurse was forced to perform an abortion even though she had objections. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Jordan Boyd is a staff writer at The Federalist and co-producer of The Federalist Radio Hour.
