Ron DeSantis announced Tuesday that Florida lawmakers are considering the termination of Disney\u2019s Reedy Creek Improvement District.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernor DeSantis\u2019 position is that all businesses in Florida should be able to compete on a fair playing field, without company-specific carve-outs or special favors from government,\u201d Press Secretary Christina Pushaw told The Daily Wire on Tuesday, regarding the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/570612324\/DeSantis-Proclamation\">governor\u2019s proclamation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The move reminds Disney that the company is a \u201cguest\u201d in Florida, according to Florida state Rep. Randy Fine. (Disclosure: The Daily Wire has announced plans for children\u2019s entertainment content.)<\/p>\n<p>Fine said Tuesday that DeSantis\u2019s expansion of the special session allows him to file\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2022C\/3\">HB3C<\/a>, eliminating \u201ca 50 yr-old special statute that makes Disney to exempt from laws faced by regular Floridians\u201d \u2014 allowing Disney to enjoy its own zoning privileges.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING:  Disney is a guest in Florida. Randy Fine (@VoteRandyFine) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VoteRandyFine\/status\/1516417533825454083?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 19, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe Florida legislature is meeting this week to consider the congressional reapportionment plan for Florida for the next 10 years, and that is what they have been called upon to do,\u201d DeSantis said Tuesday at a press conference, \u201cbut I am announcing today that we are expanding the call of what they are going to be considering this week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so yes, they will be considering the congressional map, but they also will be considering termination of all special districts that were enacted in Florida prior to 1968, and that includes the Reedy Creek Improvement District,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">NEW: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovRonDeSantis?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@GovRonDeSantis<\/a> says that this week, Florida lawmakers will officially consider the termination of Disney\u2019s Reedy Creek Improvement District. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mZ7OO7JBAn\">https:\/\/t.co\/mZ7OO7JBAn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Christina Pushaw \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 (@ChristinaPushaw) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChristinaPushaw\/status\/1516415586917572611?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 19, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The move comes as DeSantis and Disney spar over Florida\u2019s \u201cParental Rights in Education\u201d law, which bans classroom instruction about gender identity and sexual orientation for small children.<\/p>\n<p>The law has been wildly misrepresented as \u201cDon\u2019t Say Gay\u201d legislation by critics who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/floridas-lgbtq-bill-is-being-wildly-misrepresented-here-are-the-facts\">most notably have taken issue<\/a> with HB 1557\u2019s statement that\u00a0\u201cclassroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Students in kindergarten are typically five years old, while third graders generally are eight or nine years old.<\/p>\n<p>Nowhere in the legislation is the word \u201cgay\u201d mentioned, though the word \u201cparent\u201d is mentioned 32 times and the word \u201cparental\u201d is mentioned eight times. The legislation heavily focuses on parental notification and parental awareness of what children are being taught or exposed to in school.<\/p>\n<p>Disney joined progressive activists in repeatedly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/disney-florida-bill-banning-sexuality-gender-discussions-for-little-kids-should-never-have-passed\">condemning<\/a>\u00a0the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe remain committed to supporting the national and state organizations working to achieve that,\u201d a Disney spokesman told The Daily Wire in March.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly afterward, Manhattan Institute senior fellow Chris Rufo released several videos purportedly from a recent \u201call-hands\u201d Zoom staff meeting in which a Disney executive producer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/not-at-all-secret-gay-agenda-disney-employees-break-down-adding-queerness-to-shows-and-degenderizing-theme-parks\">discussed implementing<\/a>\u00a0her \u201cnot-at-all secret gay agenda\u201d in a children\u2019s show.<\/p>\n<p>Many parents who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/it-was-our-happy-place-families-cancel-disney-trips-abandon-disney-plus-over-companys-woke-ideology\">spoke<\/a> with The Daily Wire cited Disney\u2019s increasingly woke stances as reasons why they are cancelling trips to Disney and Disney+ subscriptions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDisney has been a part of our family,\u201d one mother said. \u201cThis is a hard transition.
