The report cited two sources familiar with the matter who are aware of the press secretary telling this to senior White House officials. Psaki also reportedly was in talks with other outlets, such as CNN.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConcerns about conflicts of interest when seeking new employment are not new, and the federal government has strict laws and regulations governing how employees conduct themselves,\u201d Protect the Public\u2019s Trust, a watchdog organization run by retired and former public servants,\u00a0wrote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/protectpublicstrust.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Psaki-Letter-Regarding-Ethics-and-Non-Federal-Employment.pdf\">letter<\/a> sent Monday to the government. \u201cUnder federal law, it is a criminal offense punishable by up to five years in prison to willfully participate in any \u2018particular matter\u2019 in which an organization an employee is negotiating or has an arrangement regarding future employment has a financial interest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In their letter, the group references a podcast <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/psaki-slammed-over-statement-on-her-peter-doocy-insult-whca-slammed-for-appearing-to-not-take-action\">appearance<\/a> Psaki made on April 14. The press secretary was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/stupid-son-of-a-b-psaki-says-fox-news-makes-peter-doocy-sound-stupid\">asked<\/a> about Fox News White House Correspondent Peter Doocy, and responded, \u201cHe works for a network that provides people with questions that, nothing personal to any individual including Peter Doocy, but might make anyone sound like a stupid son of a b****.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The letter was first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/psakis-disparagement-of-fox-news-warrants-doj-investigation-watchdog\">reported<\/a> by the Washington Examiner Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The status of Fox News as a competitor to MSNBC and CNN complicates matters, according to the group, since Psaki has sought \u201cnon-federal employment\u201d at both of the left-leaning networks. \u201cAccordingly, Ms. Psaki\u2019s statements regarding Fox News may be regarded as the use of her official positions for the private gain of Fox News\u2019 competitors, such as MSNBC, with whom she is affiliated in her nongovernmental capacity,\u201d the letter states.<\/p>\n<p>The White House did not respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Chamberlain, director of Protect the Public\u2019s Trust, told The Daily Wire that high-ranking senior officials promise to uphold ethics and transparency and then consistently turn around and \u201cact in a manner that undermines confidence in government integrity.\u201d He seeks the government to investigate Psaki so Americans can be assured there are no clear ethics problems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll we can hope is that as we shine a light on this behavior that is destructive to the already-low trust in government, federal investigators take it seriously and assure the public that no one is above the law,\u201d Chamberlain said.<\/p>\n<p>The letter sent by Chamberlain\u2019s group further says that Psaki and other senior officials have an \u201caffirmative duty\u201d to tell their supervising ethics official once they start negotiations for a future job.
