The same can be said about Tom Brady, though it\u2019s still to be seen whether he continued playing one year too long.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAt the end of the day, I just love the competition on the field,\u201d Brady told <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/33764448\/tom-brady-confident-decision-return-nfl-knowing-there-place-the-field\"><span>ESPN<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cAnd last year was a very bitter ending to a season and we\u2019ve got to make a lot of corrections to try to improve and put ourselves in a better position to succeed moving forward.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On February 1, Brady officially announced his retirement from football \u2014 days after rumors swirled that he was hanging up his helmet \u2014 saying that he was \u201cnot going to make that competitive commitment anymore.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis is difficult for me to write, but here it goes: I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore,\u201d Brady posted to social media. \u201cI have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Following the announcement, there were still many who weren\u2019t sure that Brady\u2019s time on the field had really come to an end. In 2021, Brady threw for the most yards of his career (5,316) and the second most touchdowns of his career (43), as Tampa Bay won 13 regular season games. There was a feeling that Brady still had something left in the tank, calling it quits with more to give.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The feeling was validated 40 days after Brady\u2019s retirement announcement, with the GOAT informing the football world that he would be returning for his 23rd NFL season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThese past two months I\u2019ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands,\u201d Brady <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TomBrady\/status\/1503147141795045378?s=20&#038;t=nU0bnx_pBpqXWaL2_GKd7Q\"><span>posted<\/span><\/a><span> to Twitter. \u201cThat time will come. But it\u2019s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I\u2019m coming back for my 23rd season in Tampa. Unfinished business LFG.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Brady told ESPN that he knows he has more to give, though he\u2019s aware that we\u2019re rapidly approaching the end.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI knew my body, physically, could still do what it could do and obviously I have a love for the game, I think I\u2019ll always have a love for the game,\u201d Brady <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/33764448\/tom-brady-confident-decision-return-nfl-knowing-there-place-the-field\"><span>told<\/span><\/a><span> ESPN. \u201cI do think physically I\u2019ll be able to do it. I just felt like there was still a place for me on the field.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI know I don\u2019t have a lot left, I really do. I know I\u2019m at the end of my career,\u201d Brady <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/33764448\/tom-brady-confident-decision-return-nfl-knowing-there-place-the-field\"><span>continued<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cI wish you could go forever, but it\u2019s just not and football comes at too high of a cost now.
