Greg Abbott (R) launched and quickly won his border battle with four Mexican state governors \u2013 and the D.C. establishment is pretending the victory never happened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe governor [of Tamaulipas] will provide enhanced border security enforcement measures on the Mexico side of the border, both in ports of entry as well as along the Rio Grande River to prevent illegal immigration from Mexico into Texas,\u201d Abbott said Friday as he ended the trade-blocking safety inspections of Mexican trucks into Texas.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIf those crossings resumed \u2014 or increase \u2014 it will signal the cartel-supported crossings have increased and that Texas must reinstate the more stringent vehicle-inspection standard,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are showing how border governors can lead the way on solving border problems,\u201d Abbott said after using the threat of trade blockades to forge deals with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/border\/2022\/04\/14\/texas-gov-claims-win-in-title-42-border-battle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">four Mexican state governors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_20690564\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/GettyImages-1239969893.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20690564\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/GettyImages-1239969893.jpg\" alt=\"PROGRESO, TX - APRIL 13: Hundreds of commercial trucks wait in line to cross the Progreso International bridge into Mexico on April 13, 2022 in Progreso, Texas. (Michael Gonzalez\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt remains to be seen how successful this effort of his will be, but clearly it\u2019s an initial success,\u201d responded Mark Krikorian, director of the Center for Immigration Studies. \u201cIt\u2019s perplexing why there hasn\u2019t been more real coverage of it \u2026 I\u2019m not familiar with something of this scale happening before,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The Biden administration said little during Abbott\u2019s border war, Krikorian noted.<\/p>\n<p>The silence might have been caused by conflicted political staff in the White House hoping that someone or something would give them political cover to extend the popular Title 42 border barrier that is hated by the party\u2019s pro-migration wing, he said. Border officials are letting many migrants through that Title 42 barrier now \u2014 roughly 80,000 of 220,000 in March, for example \u2014 and are scheduled to lift the barrier by May 23.<\/p>\n<p>Mexico\u2019s federal government also said little.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is rather astonishing that a Mexican Prez \u2026 (who says to care a great deal about sovereignty) allowed Abbott to bully up individual Mexican state governors (by choking the US\/MX supply chain) &#038; forcing them to implement security measures,\u201d said in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/diazbriseno\/status\/1515039759030263808?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1515039759030263808%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.breitbart.com%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost.php%3Fpost%3D20607383action%3Dedit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a Friday tweet<\/a> by a D.C.-based Mexican journalist, Jos\u00e9 D\u00edaz Brise\u00f1o.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"640\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">5\/ The \u201cdeals\u201d between Abbott &#038; the Mexican border state Govs include policies already implemented. Can this happen without first coordinating w\/MX City &#038; DC? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5HPtUy4pwc\">pic.twitter.com\/5HPtUy4pwc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jos\u00e9 D\u00edaz Brise\u00f1o (@diazbriseno) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/diazbriseno\/status\/1515058706848927750?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 15, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>On Monday, Mexico\u2019s president briefly commented on the deals won by Texas.\u00a0\u201cLegally they can do it, but it\u2019s a very despicable way to act,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/mexican-president-slams-texas-over-143415293.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.<\/p>\n<p>Abbott\u2019s coup \u201chas received surprisingly little mass media coverage for being a state governor directly interfering with international trade policy,\u201d a <a href=\"https:\/\/borderlines.substack.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pro-migration media site<\/a>\u00a0said on Friday. \u201cIt\u2019s no secret to anyone that Abbott\u2019s got broader political ambitions,\u201d the Border\/Lines site added.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The U.S. corporate-run media reported Abbott\u2019s win as an Abbott defeat \u2014 and played up business claims of massive economic damage in the United States\u00a0 \u2014 despite four Mexican governors signing anti-migration deals in exchange for easier truck traffic into Texas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTexas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said Friday that there were no longer any secondary inspections of trucks crossing into his state from Mexico, announcing the end of a policy that had created multi-mile backlogs and that critics alleged had cost them millions of dollars in losses because key trade routes had ground to a halt,\u201d the <em>Washington Post<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2022\/04\/15\/texas-truck-greg-abbott-mexico\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> April 15.<\/p>\n<p>Down in the eighth paragraph, the <em>Post<\/em>\u2018s editors acknowledged:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote>\n<p>On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Abbott met with governors from a number of Mexican states that use Texas ports to import goods, hashing out deals that exchanged the cessation of his additional inspections for enhanced border security on the part of the Mexican government.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cTexas Gov. Greg Abbott on Friday repealed his traffic-clogging immigration order that backed up commercial trucks at the U.S.-Mexico border, after a week of intensifying backlash and fears of deepening economic losses,\u201d the Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/immigration-business-greg-abbott-texas-mexico-372a4ee1a1847e935d18fa7aa78f5786\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The AP mentioned Abbott\u2019s success in the fourth paragraph, saying he \u201cfully lifted the inspections after reaching agreements with neighboring Mexican states that he says outline new commitments to border security. \u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <em>New York Time<\/em>s ran a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/04\/15\/us\/greg-abbott-immigration-repeal.html?searchResultPosition=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">short article<\/a> on Friday with the same Abbott-gives-up headline: \u201cAmid Backlash, Texas Governor Repeals Border-Clogging Immigration Order.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no state official doing more damage to the nation than Greg Abbott. Of course, being governor of Texas gives you more than a leg up in that regard,\u201d Esquire magazine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esquire.com\/news-politics\/politics\/a39739393\/greg-abbott-border-truck-inspections-supply-chain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vented<\/a> on Friday from New York City.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe [establishment] media all play from the work often the same [Democratic] playbook,\u201d said Rob Law, a former official at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services agency. \u201cThere\u2019s no independent voice saying, \u2018Oh well, this is interesting that the governor is doing what\u2019s the federal government is supposed to be doing or anything like that,\u201d said Law, who now works with Krikorian at the Center for Immigration Studies.<\/p>\n<p>Some media outlets poured cold water on the Abbott deals by noting that Mexican governors are implicated in the massively profitable trafficking of labor to the Biden\u2019s administration. For example, the Texas Tribune <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2022\/04\/15\/texas-border-abbott-vehicle-inspections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>;<\/p>\n<p>Cabeza de Vaca, the Tamaulipas governor, has been linked to organized crime by the U.S. Department of Justice,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/insightcrime.org\/news\/uncertain-future-tamaulipas-governor\/\">according to Mexico\u2019s attorney general\u2019s office<\/a>. Mexico prosecutors have also charged him\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FOANYaz4RVM\">with money laundering and tax evasion<\/a>. He has denied any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are totally ineffective to deal with their own problems and their own violence, so how are these people going to deal with this?\u201d Correa-Cabrera said.<\/p>\n<p>De Vaca talked a good game in the Friday deal-signing with Abbott, saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Organized crime pays no attention to the border, which is why we have these issues in both countries. Human smuggling has become a billion-dollar business. As things stand today, there\u2019s no end in sight. I mentioned these things because the main subject of why we\u2019re here today is security.<\/p>\n<p>Security on the ports of entry and between the ports of entry \u2014 that takes cooperation and commitment and efforts of all of us. And though we have worked with the Texas Department of Public Safety for various operations, we must renew our efforts to continue working together, between Texas and [the state of] Tamaulipas to help solve these issues.<\/p>\n<p>Immigration control is a federal issue, but I will always commit [to] a system where we can do what we have to do. Ultimately, it will also benefit the people of Tamaulipas. We don\u2019t want organized crime in my state any more than you do. This is not an easy task. We don\u2019t have only nine miles of border and one border crossing, like my neighbor [Mexican state] to the west. We have over 230 miles of border with eighteen boarding crossings. We\u2019re talking about 50 percent of the commerce that goes between the Mexico and United States \u2026\u00a0We\u2019re not only neighbors, we\u2019re business partners, we\u2019re allies, and many of us, our family is living on both sides.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But Abbott played up his win on Friday, knowing that he helped himself in his gubernatorial re-election campaign and also boosted his national profile before the 2024 race:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Texas will not tolerate the endless stream of illegal immigrants crossing the border and we will increase our border security in light of President Biden\u2019s decision to eliminate Title 42 expulsions. The ultimate way to end the clogged border is for President Biden to do his job and secure it. (Brandon Bell\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIf there is not a slowdown in illegal immigration, there will be a reimplementation of 100 percent inspection of all commercial vehicles,\u201d Abbott said, adding:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>A consequence of that is financial pain, and that financial pain is necessary to get the public to insist that their government leaders \u2014 such as the presidents of the two countries involved \u2014 take the action that is needed to solve this problem.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In March, Biden\u2019s border agency counted 220,000 arrivals at the border and allowed 80,000 migrants into U.S. jobs, homes, jobs, and schools.<\/p>\n<p>Since at least 1990, the D.C. establishment has used a wide variety of excuses and explanations \u2014 for example, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tag\/nation-of-immigrants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nation of Immigrants<\/a>\u201d \u2014 to justify its economic policy of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tag\/extraction-migration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">extracting<\/a>\u00a0tens of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/immigration\/2022\/02\/23\/report-u-s-immigrant-population-hits-record-46-6-million\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">millions<\/a>\u00a0of migrants and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2022\/02\/24\/bidens-border-agency-worries-about-tinder-swindler-amid-migration-fraud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">visa workers<\/a>\u00a0from poor countries to serve as legal or illegal workers, consumers, and renters for various U.S. investors and CEOs.<\/p>\n<p>The self-serving\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/immigration\/2021\/12\/20\/washington-post-low-wage-employers-struggle-after-cheap-labor-bubble\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">economic<\/a>\u00a0strategy of extraction migration has\u00a0no\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2021\/11\/20\/gop-donors-economist-immigration-can-offset-foreign-trade-risks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stopping<\/a>\u00a0point.
