Burleson checked into a Kyiv hotel on business just two days before Russia\u2019s invasion. He soon found himself sheltering in the hotel\u2019s garage during air raid sirens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was no way out because the trains were so packed,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsobserver.com\/news\/state\/north-carolina\/article260438102.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> McClatchy.<\/p>\n<p>Burleson reached out to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectdynamo.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Project Dynamo<\/a> for assistance to leave Ukraine. The organization had come to notoriety just months earlier for its efforts to extract American citizens from Afghanistan following President Joe Biden\u2019s military withdrawal on August 31.<\/p>\n<p>The organization describes its name as \u201can umbrella term encompassing two operations \u2014 Digital Dunkirk and Dynamo II. Both efforts are being run by extraordinary civilians with no ties to the U.S. government attempting to do the impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Burleson\u2019s case, the \u201cimpossible\u201d was to extract him from Urkaine\u2019s war-torn capital.<\/p>\n<p>According to American Military News, Burleson received a text message on March 2 with four hours\u2019 notice. He was soon boarding a bus where he was required to shut down his mobile phone and other electronics.<\/p>\n<p>Burleson is not the only person the non-profit has helped to escape from Ukraine\u2019s war zones.<\/p>\n<p>Five surrogate mothers who are carrying children for American parents were among 60 people that the rescue group recently helped. They\u2019re currently staying in an undisclosed location within Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re just relieved these missions were successful and with all involved safely out of harm\u2019s way,\u201d Project Dynamo co-founder Bryan Stern said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/04\/18\/project-dynamo-rescues-surrogate-mothers-from-ukraine-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[T]hese rescues of civilians, including pregnant surrogates, are becoming even more imperative and more difficult given the dynamic threat environment,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The report added that the rescue organization has led five successful operations to date in Ukraine. The locations have included Kharkiv, Dnipro, Kherson, Nickolaev, and Kakhovka.<\/p>\n<p>Jen Wilson, the chief operating officer of Army Week Association, noted that many Americans relied on Project Dynamo\u2019s work to help citizens and those who had assisted the U.S. military to escape Afghanistan after it fell under Taliban control.<\/p>\n<p>Wilson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/afghan-ally-says-he-expects-to-be-left-behind-and-killed-im-going-to-die-for-a-good-thing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> during a Fox News report in August that the airport in Kabul \u201cis likely no longer an option to get our guys out, so we\u2019ve pivoted, and Project Dynamo is now our way to get them out. We\u2019re going to open the northern corridor, we\u2019re going to set up our own beachhead, and we\u2019re going to start getting them out \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt just crushed me to hear you say that you\u2019re not going to make it out,\u201d Wilson told Carl and promised again that they would get him out. \u201cIf it is the last thing I do, we\u2019re going to get you out,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Carl, an Afghan man who assisted the U.S. military for a decade, was a witness to the Afghan bombing in Kabul that killed 13 U.S. military personnel and more than 150 other people shortly before the Biden administration\u2019s military withdrawal from Afghanistan.<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies for breaking news, investigative reporting, sports, podcasts, in-depth analysis, books, and entertainment for a reason: because we believe in what we do.
