I don\u2019t think we should have ever implemented it. It\u2019s a very cynical reading of U.S. law,\u201d O\u2019Rourke told host Jonathan Capehart on MSNBC\u2019s \u201cThe Sunday Show.\u201d<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>After that comment, Republican communications strategist Matt Whitlock pointed out, \u201cIn a period of 9 days,<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BetoORourke\"> @BetoORourke<\/a> has taken 3 positions on Biden ending Title 42.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">In a period of 9 days, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BetoORourke?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@BetoORourke<\/a> has taken 3 positions on Biden ending Title 42:<\/p>\n<p>April 8: Title 42 is bad, creating chaos<\/p>\n<p>April 13: Biden is bad for ending title 42<\/p>\n<p>April 17: I think it\u2019s time to end Title 42 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/sE1vM5VrQD\">pic.twitter.com\/sE1vM5VrQD<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Matt Whitlock (@mattdizwhitlock) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mattdizwhitlock\/status\/1515856619317469188?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 18, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On April 8, O\u2019Rourke stated that Title 42 was \u201ccreating chaos\u201d and should be ended by President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCaught up with [Beto O\u2019Rourke] today in San Antonio about the end of Title 42, which he\u2019s called for,\u201d Patrick Svitek of The Texas Tribune<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PatrickSvitek\/status\/1512535620144570368?s=20&#038;t=cWrfqSvmlmDpCrKUEUvMWA\"> tweeted<\/a>. \u201cHe reiterated his argument\/reasoning that \u2018beyond not being honest to the law,\u2019 Title 42 is \u2018creating more chaos at the border\u2019 by leading to more repeat crossing attempts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just four days later, in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2022\/04\/12\/beto-orourke-joe-biden-border-migrants\/\">interview with the Tribune<\/a>, O\u2019Rourke backtracked and argued instead that the Biden team should not end the policy right now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt does not make sense to end this until there is a real plan and the capacity in place to handle those and address those that come over,\u201d O\u2019Rourke <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2022\/04\/12\/beto-orourke-joe-biden-border-migrants\/\">told<\/a> the Tribune on Tuesday. \u201cI have yet to hear a plan from the Biden administration to address the dynamic we will have on the border once Title 42 ends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the failed-presidential candidate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/texas\/2022\/04\/12\/beto-orourke-knocks-biden-for-ending-title-42-without-a-plan-to-deal-with-influx-of-migrants\/\">added<\/a>, \u201cTitle 42 is bad policy,\u201d before claiming, \u201cBut we must end Title 42, we must do that responsibly, and the Biden administration must step up by meeting with these border communities and working with them to make sure that we do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As summarized by Whitlock, O\u2019Rourke\u2019s strategy appears to be, \u201cif you take EVERY position it\u2019s hard to attack you for taking BAD positions.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BetoORourke?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@BetoORourke<\/a> strategy: if you take EVERY position it\u2019s hard to attack you for taking BAD positions <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IXPMEhJkPf\">pic.twitter.com\/IXPMEhJkPf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Matt Whitlock (@mattdizwhitlock) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mattdizwhitlock\/status\/1515858198636421121?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 18, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Title 42, which was enacted under President Donald Trump at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, has been monumental in deporting illegal immigrants out of the country during the nation\u2019s worst immigration crisis in decades. On Saturday, The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/210000-illegal-aliens-arrested-at-border-in-march-more-than-80000-released-into-country\">reported<\/a> that in March, at least 221,000 illegal aliens attempted to enter the country.
