Thank you Gene, for your service!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Video footage showed the moment the veteran <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hsMU3MdaYSg\">removed<\/a> his blindfold and shook his head in disbelief while everyone clapped and cheered.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>American flags and homemade signs decorated the lawn for the big reveal:<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>For many years, Gene and his wife have served veterans by driving them to medical appointments in Wisconsin because,\u00a0\u201cAfter my time in the service, I want to give back to other people and veterans,\u201d Gene explained.<\/p>\n<p>Another example of his generosity was when he won thousands of dollars and along with his daughter, made a trip to Walmart where they handed it out to people shopping.<\/p>\n<p>As to the recent surprise, Gene, who served as a medic with the U.S. Army in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/topics\/vietnam-war\/vietnam-war-history\">Vietnam<\/a>, was nominated several times by others and his daughter, Kristine Frank, was one of those people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want them to like coming home and enjoy a new exterior and appreciate it and the Palmeri family is amazing,\u201d she explained. \u201cVeterans grab our hearts.
