I\u2019ve had a colleague stabbed on the way to work,\u201d Griffin, who is based in Chicago, said in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/citadels-griffin-rises-as-top-gop-donor-urges-business-leaders-to-join-him-11650013200?mod=hp_lead_pos6&#038;utm_source=newsletter&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_campaign=newsletter_axiosmarkets&#038;stream=business\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interview with the Wall Street Journal<\/a>. \u201cThat\u2019s a really difficult backdrop with which to draw talent to your city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While it takes safety for a nation to flourish in the short term, it also takes a substantive education system to maintain a thriving country, Griffin argues.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/citadel-ken-griffin-millions-elections-01.jpg\"><\/a><figcaption>Ken Griffin made more money than any other hedge fund manager last year.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Bloomberg via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cNothing is more important to the future of America than a robust nursery through high school, and then a system of higher education,\u201d Griffin adds. \u201cA huge part of my shift towards being more involved in politics has been watching federal and state policies undermine access to the American Dream.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Griffin is quick to acknowledge not everyone shares his political viewpoints. <\/p>\n<p>But he still encourages those who disagree with him to get involved and donate to causes they care about as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToo many of America\u2019s business leaders stay out of politics today,\u201d Griffin said \u201cThey have to be engaged because they understand the ramification of policy decisions: I\u2019m building a business; I\u2019m running a factory; I\u2019m creating jobs. In 2020, he gave more than $67 million to political causes. <\/p>\n<p>While he\u2019s donated broadly to issues, he is also interested in supporting individual candidates. <\/p>\n<p>He has given $5 million to a political action committee associated with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. He\u2019s also donated $7.5 million to a PAC associated with Pennsylvania Republican gubernatorial candidate David McCormick. Griffin has criticized Trump\u2019s unsubstantiated claims that the 2020 election was rigged and adds it\u2019s time to look to \u201cthe next generation\u201d of candidates for the 2024 election cycle.<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s not just politics Griffin is spending big money on.
