In February, 44 percent expressed the belief that the \u201cworst part of the pandemic is behind us,\u201d followed by 22 percent who were unsure. Two categories that have dropped significantly in just two months are the seventeen percent who believed the pandemic was \u201cgoing to get worse,\u201d and the 16 percent who believed the U.S. was \u201ccurrently in the worst part of the pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps most surprising is the fact that opinions do not differ too drastically along party lines. Three quarters of Republicans say the worst of the pandemic is \u201cbehind us,\u201d as do most independents, 59 percent, and a plurality of Democrats, 48 percent. Just 15 percent of Democrats, 12 percent of independents, and nine percent of Republicans believe the pandemic is \u201cgoing to get worse\u201d at this point.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The survey was taken April 9-12, 2022, among 1,500 U.S. adult citizens and comes as Americans attempt to return to a state of maskless, restrictionless pre-pandemic normalcy. While that is happening at the state level \u2014 at least mask-wise, as there are currently no statewide mask mandates in place \u2014 the Biden administration has failed, time and time again, to finally lift the federal mask requirement for public transportation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/media\/releases\/2022\/s0413-mask-order.html\">extending<\/a> the rule yet again, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/04\/13\/biden-administration-extends-federal-transportation-mask-mandate-again\/\">forcing<\/a> people to mask up for at least another two weeks beyond April 18.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">Meanwhile, Philadelphia this week became the first major city to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/04\/12\/coronavirus-forever-philadelphia-is-bringing-back-indoor-mask-mandate\/\">reintroduce<\/a> a mask mandate, moving from its\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u201cLevel 1: All Clear\u201d\u00a0 to \u201cLevel 2: Mask Precautions,\u201d forcing individuals to mask up in public places again.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">The rule goes into effect Monday, April 18, and it remains unclear if other major cities will follow suit if they, too, see a slight uptick in cases.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most Americans are in agreement that the \u201cworst\u201d of the Chinese coronavirus pandemic is \u201cbehind us,\u201d a YouGov\/TheEconomist survey found.
