Investigating why Speaker Nancy Pelosi <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/12\/16\/nancy-pelosi-owns-january-6\/\">refused<\/a> to deploy the National Guard six times would be a good start. <\/p>\n<p>Instead, the partisan probe has <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/30\/the-attacks-on-clarence-and-ginni-thomas-are-merely-latest-in-a-decades-long-smear-campaign\/\">routinely<\/a> sought to selectively leak the private messages of public and private individuals in an effort to frame political dissidents as complicit in a \u201cviolent insurrection.\u201d Friday was the committee\u2019s latest example of this, sending texts between a former White House chief of staff and a pair of Republican lawmakers to its go-to outlet, CNN.<\/p>\n<p>In a \u201cCNN Exclusive,\u201d a team of four reporters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/04\/15\/politics\/mike-lee-chip-roy-text-messages-jan-6-mark-meadows-overturn-election\/index.html\">published<\/a> the most recent revelations from the Jan. 6 Committee to apparently implicate Utah Sen. Mike Lee and Texas Rep. Chip Roy as guilty of fomenting the Capitol unrest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018We need ammo. We need fraud examples. We need it this weekend,&#8217;\u201d the story headlined. \u201cWhat the Meadows texts reveal about how two Trump congressional allies lobbied the White House to overturn the election.\u201d The raw text messages can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/04\/15\/politics\/read-mark-meadows-texts-mike-lee-chip-roy\/index.html\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The J6 narrative charged Lee and Roy with promoting election conspiracies to assist the White House in overturning an election with apparently no problems, aside from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/fact-tank\/2021\/01\/28\/turnout-soared-in-2020-as-nearly-two-thirds-of-eligible-u-s-voters-cast-ballots-for-president\/\">record-level turnout<\/a> from less-reliable mail-in voting under <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/01\/06\/j6-hysteria-is-how-media-and-other-democrats-are-avoiding-accountability-for-their-rigging-of-the-2020-election\/\">last-minute rule changes<\/a> with election offices privatized by left-wing actors. What they truly found, however, were lawmakers who worked to ensure the constitutional legitimacy of an extremely close election.<\/p>\n<p>To start, CNN acknowledged both lawmakers \u201csupported legal challenges to the election but ultimately came to sour on the effort and the tactics deployed by Trump and his team.\u201d Both voted to certify President Joe Biden\u2019s electoral victory (even if they hadn\u2019t, objections are not illegal, and in fact have been <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/02\/10\/liz-cheney-called-electoral-objections-unconstitutional-and-then-sided-with-democrats-whod-done-it-for-years\/\">popular<\/a> among Democrats in 2001, 2005, and 2017). <\/p>\n<p>The authors started the next paragraph with, \u201c\u2018We\u2019re driving a stake in the heart of the federal republic,\u2019 Roy texted Meadows on January 1\u201d \u2014 a comment completely ripped out of context to inflame readers obsessed with every development from the committee as a blockbuster scandal.<\/p>\n<p>Roy Communications Director Nate Madden responded to the line by posting a screenshot of the raw message from CNN\u2019s own page that included a qualifier. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cUse the whole quote, Einstein,\u201d Madden wrote, wherein the full text read, \u201cIf POTUS allows this to occur\u2026 we\u2019re driving a stake in the heard of the federal republic,\u201d five days before Jan. 6. That\u2019s quite the opposite of encouraging Trump to follow through with contesting an election outcome.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe messages speak for themselves,\u201d Madden told The Federalist. \u201cBut as the old saying goes, torture the data and it will tell you anything you want.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lee also stands accused by CNN\u2019s Amanda Carpenter of lying about his knowledge of a scheme plotted by attorney John Eastman to pursue alternate electors. As outlined by the Washington Examiner\u2019s Conn Carroll in a Twitter thread linked below, however, the erroneous accusation results from a manipulation of the messages presented by CNN and the Salt Lake Tribune reporting on them.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/conncarroll\/status\/1515130774055497738?s=20&#038;t=t_FyWJNf2HzavPFwZVrEYQ\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Conn-Carroll-Tweet.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-270826\" width=\"616\" height=\"299\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Conn-Carroll-Tweet.jpg 874w, https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Conn-Carroll-Tweet-300x146.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Conn-Carroll-Tweet-768x373-1.jpg 768w\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2021\/09\/20\/peril-woodward-costa-graham-lee-fraud\/\">According<\/a> to reporting by Robert Costa and Bob Woodward linked in the Tribune story and shared by Carpenter, Lee\u2019s knowledge of a campaign of alternate electors only extended to \u201ca social media campaign \u2013 an amateur push with no legal standing,\u201d not a real plot by Eastman.<\/p>\n<p>What the text messages published by CNN reveal are nothing more than a pair of top Republican lawmakers fighting to exhaust all legal and constitutional challenges to ensure the integrity of an election outcome decided by fewer than <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/11\/23\/a-neighbor-you-like-probably-voted-for-trump\/\">45,000 votes<\/a> across three tipping-point states amid election system chaos.
