James Lankford is denouncing D.C. officials for failing to properly address the deaths of five premie-sized aborted babies found in the nation\u2019s capitol.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI demanded an investigation from D.C. Mayor Bowser, the D.C. police, and the Department of Justice into the deaths of the five babies whose lives were stolen through gruesome late-term abortion procedures, potentially violating federal law,\u201d Lankford told The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnsurprisingly, my request\u00a0was met with a shrug,\u201d he said. \u201cSome in our nation\u2019s capital may not care about the value of every child, but I believe every child is valuable.\u00a0I\u2019m not giving up on these precious lives lost or on the refusal to investigate how their lives were taken.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not letting this go,\u201d Lankford promised.<\/p>\n<p>His comments come amid repeated media inquiries and calls for investigations and autopsies from Republican lawmakers and pro-life activists.<\/p>\n<p>Lankford <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/gop-lawmakers-demand-d-c-doj-investigate-bodies-of-aborted-babies-uncovered-by-pro-life-activists\">led Republican lawmakers<\/a> in demanding that D.C. authorities determine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/d-c-authorities-wont-autopsy-recovered-bodies-of-these-aborted-babies-police-are-hiding-barbaric-crimes-pro-lifers-say\">how the babies died<\/a>\u00a0by preserving the baby bodies as evidence and performing autopsies.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/gop-doj-fbi-must-investigate-aborted-baby-bodies-for-violations-of-partial-birth-abortion-act\">have also asked<\/a> that the Department of Justice investigate whether the abortionist who ended the babies\u2019 lives <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/gop-doj-fbi-must-investigate-aborted-baby-bodies-for-violations-of-partial-birth-abortion-act\">violated federal law<\/a> by performing partial-birth abortions while the babies were still alive or by allowing the babies to die after they were born alive.<\/p>\n<p>D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/dc-mayor-accuses-pro-life-activist-of-tampering-with-fetal-remains\">finally weighed in<\/a> on the matter late last Friday in a response to Lankford, but the mayor did not address calls for investigations or autopsies.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, she singled out Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising activist Lauren Handy, one of the women who has said they intercepted the fetal remains at Washington Surgi Clinic on March 25.<\/p>\n<p>Handy has been charged and indicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in a separate October 2020 incident wherein she pushed her way into an abortion clinic. Bowser called this \u201cextremist anti-abortion activity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"a\">\u201cThe Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is in consultation with the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"a\">United States Attorney\u2019s Office\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"a\">for\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"a\">the District of\u00a0<span class=\"l7\">Columbia on\u00a0both matters,\u201d the mayor said, calling the October 2020 incident and Handy\u2019s involvement in finding the fetal remains \u201c<\/span><\/span><span class=\"a\">potentially, serious violations of federal law.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>She has not responded to The Daily Wire\u2019s requests for comment regarding the requested autopsies. The D.C. Medical Examiner directed The Daily Wire to her office when asked for comment, and the Metropolitan Police Department has steadily refused to divulge information citing an ongoing investigation into the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Staff at the clinic have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/i-went-to-the-clinic-of-the-dc-abortionist-accused-of-gruesome-crimes-heres-what-i-saw\">refused to discuss<\/a> the aborted baby bodies with The Daily Wire, directing press inquiries to the National Abortion Federation, which has not responded to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cD.C. officials do not care about federal laws protecting our most vulnerable, and their silence only confirms it,\u201d Republican Texas Rep. Chip Roy told The Daily Wire on Wednesday. \u201cPerforming an autopsy and acknowledging the mere possibility that abortionist Cesare Santangelo broke the law would require Mayor Bowser and her radically pro-abortion cronies to concede that these are indeed human beings worthy of protection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBiden\u2019s Department of Justice should investigate these horrific acts, rather than put the administration\u2019s pro-abortion ideology above the lives of these children,\u201d he added. \u201cThat\u2019s what a serious and functional DOJ would do.
