There is no evidence CNN tweeted about child soldiers in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Russian Ministry of Defense has threatened to scale up its attacks against Ukraine if the country strikes Russian territory, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-61117056\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBC News<\/a>. Almost 5 million Ukrainian refugees have fled the country since the Russian invasion began in February, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>An image shared on Facebook April 11 purportedly shows a tweet from news network CNN about Ukrainian children volunteering to fight the Russians. \u201cAs fighting intensifies in Eastern Ukraine, brave children sign up to fight the Russian invaders,\u201d reads the alleged tweet. \u201cWe spoke to one girl, named Olga from Zaporizhzhia, aged 12, who tells her story of taking up arms to fight invading Russian troops.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The tweet is digitally fabricated. No such story about child soldiers in Ukraine appears on CNN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/search?q=Child+Soldiers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>. Likewise, there are no tweets from the verified Twitter accounts of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=brave%20children%20(from%3ACNN)&#038;src=typed_query&#038;f=top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNN<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=brave%20children%20(from%3Acnni)&#038;src=typed_query\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNN International<\/a> or CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=brave%20children%20(from%3Acnnbrk)&#038;src=typed_query&#038;f=top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Breaking News<\/a> that mention such a story. <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220411183421\/https:\/\/twitter.com\/CNN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Archived<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220411180305\/https:\/\/twitter.com\/CNNi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">versions<\/a> of the outlet\u2019s Twitter pages show no signs of the alleged tweet. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/03\/25\/fact-check-cnn-ukraine-hotel-tweet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did CNN Publish This Tweet About A Ukrainian Hotel That Was Destroyed By Russian Bombers?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201c[It] is a fake screenshot,\u201d said CNN Head of Strategic Communications\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mdornic\/status\/1350261800860790785?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matt Dornic<\/a> in an email to Check Your Fact. \u201cCNN did not produce, publish or tweet this story. The photo appears to have been lifted from a <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/qaYhv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">piece<\/a> published by a different news organization several years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time CNN has been the subject of misinformation related to the war in Ukraine. <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/03\/03\/fact-check-russia-ukraine-india-cnn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Check Your Fact<\/a> recently debunked a viral image that claimed to show\u00a0a CNN chyron reporting that Russian President Vladimir Putin warned India against interfering in his invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An image shared on Facebook allegedly shows a CNN tweet about Ukrainian children volunteering to fight the Russians.Verdict: False The tweet is digitally fabricated.
