The first tee shot wasn\u2019t as nerve-racking as I thought it would be. The game didn\u2019t feel anywhere near as bad as I thought it was, so it was pretty exciting.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI didn\u2019t have really any goals of a score, I guess, per se, but I was just trying to hit it solid,\u201d he continued. \u201cI mean, 80 percent of (the shots) were decent enough. So I hit some balls on the range after, and I think I should have a good round tomorrow.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It\u2019s been an incredible journey for Hoffmann, experimenting with different treatments in order to defeat his 2017 diagnosis of <\/span><span>muscular dystrophy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>When diagnosed, Western doctors had no answers except that his diagnosis would only worsen, and hoped that they could keep him walking. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfdigest.com\/story\/morgan-hoffmann-costa-rica-muscular-dystrophy\">Golf Digest<\/a>, that answer didn\u2019t work for Hoffmann, who began his quest for a cure in 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Hoffmann went on a grape cleanse, eating close to 800 grapes a day. He spent 90 days in the mountains of Nepal, experimenting in urine therapy, which involves drinking your own urine and rubbing it all over the body. Hoffmann then traveled to Costa Rica \u2014 where he now lives with his wife \u2014 to go through a treatment using <\/span><span>ayahuasca, a concoction that causes hallucinations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cMy muscles, ever since I went to Nepal about probably four years ago, have been slowly getting better,\u201d Hoffmann <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfdigest.com\/story\/morgan-hoffmann-returns-to-pga-tour-muscular-dystrophy-rbc-heritage-alternative-medicine\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cThere hasn\u2019t been any more atrophy, which has been amazing. And now, my right pec was the worst\u2014it kind of got down to my ribs, where all you could see is bone\u2014and now when I put my hand here and I flex, I can feel it again. It\u2019s very, very exciting.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>While Hoffmann\u2019s life has certainly changed over the past few years \u2013 he and his wife started the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/morganhoffmann.org\/\"><span>Morgan Hoffmann Foundation<\/span><\/a><span> in 2017 in order to \u201c<\/span>support the lives of individuals on their journey to wellness\u201d \u2014 the game of golf <span>still means a great deal to Hoffmann.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt was pretty surreal today, a lot different than the lifestyle I\u2019ve been living the last 2\u00bd years, and having people cheer your name out there, it\u2019s very special,\u201d Hoffmann\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/2022\/04\/14\/diagnosed-muscular-dystrophy-morgan-hoffmann-pga-tour-return\/\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cHaving the support and the media and getting that kind of focus on what we\u2019re trying to build, the natural health and wellness center in Costa Rica, it\u2019s going to be great. I\u2019m really excited about the outcome and the building process.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI love this game so much,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt\u2019s so difficult. I had a great time out there. I think the game\u2019s closer than I thought, and it\u2019s exciting. I\u2019m pumped.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Hoffmann\u2019s playing partner on Thursday, Harold Varner III, said it didn\u2019t matter that Hoffmann\u2019s drives off the tee often fell short of the others playing in the tournament.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cHe hit his 5 iron close to where I hit my 8-iron, so I don\u2019t think it really mattered. If you were watching the whole round, I know on No. 3, I outdrove him by 30 yards, but he hit it to four feet and I\u2019m sitting there at 20, 25 feet,\u201d Varner <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/harold-varner-iii-morgan-hoffmann-233052281.html\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> of Hoffmann.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThat\u2019s what makes the game so beautiful,\u201d Varner continued. \u201cHe knows how to hone in on what he needs to do to play well.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/2022\/04\/14\/diagnosed-muscular-dystrophy-morgan-hoffmann-pga-tour-return\/\"><span>Golfweek<\/span><\/a><span>, Hoffmann is playing at the <\/span><span>RBC Heritage on a medical exemption.
