They prayed for peace in a land that rarely knows it and asked for the salvation of enemies in a region that has no shortage of them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The three pastors Open Doors interviewed \u201call live in volatile areas of Nigeria, where following Jesus comes at a high price.\u201d All refuse to leave their imperiled home villages to seek safety elsewhere.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>One of the three, Pastor Andrew, has survived two attacks by the savage Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram. The second attack wiped out everything in his village except six houses. Another, Reverend Phillip, ministers to Christian converts from Islam, which means he and his flock are marked for death.<\/span><\/p>\n[embedded content]\n[embedded content]\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>The third, Pastor Dauda, prayed that peace might someday come to all of Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cNigeria is bleeding,\u201d he said. \u201cWe pray the Lord will step in for us in this nation, and as well for believers that have been persecuted, that the Lord would step in for them wherever they are.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p><span>\u201cOur joy is many souls who have come to Jesus Christ, because we believe he is God that came to save humanity, and we believe that His salvation is for those who even perpetrated this evil,\u201d he said, referring to the constant attacks by criminal gangs and extremists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe should be strong to endure all the persecution to the very end, just as Jesus Christ was victorious,\u201d Pastor Andrew said.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>Reverend Phillip asked the world to pray for Nigerians plagued by \u201cbanditry and killing,\u201d everywhere from rural villages to city streets.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cMany people have been killed. We are asking for the redemption of God during this dark period. Please pray for our country, Nigeria,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Open Doors <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.opendoorsusa.org\/christian-persecution\/world-watch-list\/nigeria\/\"><span>ranks<\/span><\/a><span> Nigerians as among the most persecuted Christian populations in the world, as they face \u201cbrutally violent\u201d attacks from Boko Haram, its offshoot Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), and the somewhat less well-known but arguably far more dangerous Fulani, a Muslim tribe whose jihadis are known for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mnnonline.org\/news\/muslim-fulani-attacks-in-nigeria-displace-local-missionaries\/\"><span>murdering Christian missionaries<\/span><\/a><span> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-new-war-against-africas-christians-11576880200\"><span>wiping out<\/span><\/a><span> entire villages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the March 2022 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.opendoorsusa.org\/christian-persecution\/stories\/every-two-hours-a-christian-in-nigeria-is-killed-for-their-faith\/\"><span>update<\/span><\/a><span> for its World Watch List of persecution, Open Doors said Nigeria \u201caccounted for nearly 80 percent of Christian deaths worldwide\u201d and calculated \u201ca Christian is killed for their faith every two hours.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Despite these horrifying statistics, the Biden State Department actually <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/11\/23\/christian-groups-blinken-nigeria-religious-violence-list-523258\"><span>removed<\/span><\/a> <span>Nigeria from its list of \u201ccountries of particular concern\u201d for religious persecution in November. No explanation for the move was given, leaving stunned human rights groups to speculate the Biden team hoped to cajole more counter-terrorism cooperation from the Nigerian government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The bipartisan U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) said it was \u201cappalled\u201d by Secretary of State Antony Blinken\u2019s decision to delist Nigeria, urging the State Department to \u201creconsider its designations based on facts presented in its own reporting.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>International Christian aid group Open Doors spotlighted the generous and forgiving prayers of Nigerian pastors on this Easter holiday.
