In an April 4 article, WFLA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfla.com\/8-on-your-side\/investigations\/homeowners-insurance-crisis-florida-insurance-commissioner-moves-to-allow-roof-deductibles\/\">featured<\/a> the story of senior citizen Lonnie Brown of Valrico, who expressed his concerns about his property insurance, which jumped by $2,000.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p><span> \u201cI can\u2019t afford this,\u201d Brown said. \u201cWe barely get by with bills anyway and this comes up. We do not have the money to do that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>When WFLA shared the story of Brown, who feared losing his home, an anonymous good Samaritan wanted to help. The kind-hearted person signed a check covering Brown\u2019s increase, which WFLA\u2019s investigative reporter Masha\u00a0<\/span><span>Saeidi delivered to the Valrico resident.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span> \u201cGee whiz,\u201d said a grateful Brown. \u201cI\u2019m trying to maintain my composure.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Like Brown, Tad Buel, who has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfla.com\/8-on-your-side\/homeowners-insurance-crisis-some-florida-seniors-worry-theyll-lose-property\/\">receiving<\/a> disability since 2004, was concerned at the prospect of losing his home over price hikes. Buel said his stomach turned to knots and he almost burst into tears after seeing the increased insurance rates.
