Following Brady\u2019s announcement that he would come out of retirement \u2014 less than 24 hours after the purchase \u2014 to pursue an eighth Super Bowl title, the value of the ball plummeted to as little as $20,000.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>That buyer can now watch Brady compete without a pit in his stomach.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On Thursday, it was reported that a deal had been reached between the buyer and the seller of the football, and the agreement has been voided. The seller, Lelands Auctions, said that no money was ever exchanged due to Brady\u2019s retirement announcement shortly after the purchase of the football.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cFollowing Tom Brady\u2019s unretirement, and after discussions with both the buyer and consignor, we have mutually agreed to void the sale of the football,\u201d Lelands <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nfl\/buccaneers\/2022\/04\/15\/tom-bradys-final-td-pass-auction-house-voids-sale-unretirement\/7330158001\/\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> in a statement. \u201cThe ball has not been returned to the consignor, and the plan now is for Lelands to sell it privately as per the seller\u2019s wishes. There are multiple parties interested in purchasing the football.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Brady\u2019s \u201cfinal\u201d touchdown pass came in the fourth quarter of the NFC Divisional Playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams, on a 55-yard throw to wide receiver Mike Evans. The Buccaneers lost, ending their season, and Brady announced his retirement from football a week later.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll parties were waiting to see how it played out,\u201d Mike Heffner,\u00a0president and partner at Lelands <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/33740636\/agreement-reached-nullify-518k-sale-tom-brady-final-touchdown-ball\">said<\/a>. \u201cTom Brady, let\u2019s face it, is kind of unpredictable these days. Until he throws that first touchdown pass in September, this ball is still the record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>On February 1, Brady officially announced the end of his playing career, saying that he was \u201cnot going to make that competitive commitment anymore.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis is difficult for me to write, but here it goes: I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore,\u201d Brady <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-tom-brady-announces-hell-return-to-tampa-bay-for-a-23rd-nfl-season\"><span>posted<\/span><\/a><span> to Instagram. \u201cI have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Forty days later, Brady reversed course, letting the football world know that he\u2019d be returning to the Buccaneers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThese past two months I\u2019ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands,\u201d Brady <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-tom-brady-announces-hell-return-to-tampa-bay-for-a-23rd-nfl-season\"><span>posted<\/span><\/a><span> to Twitter. \u201cThat time will come. But it\u2019s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I\u2019m coming back for my 23rd season in Tampa. Unfinished business LFG.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Since then, Bucs head coach Bruce Arians has stepped away from the sidelines, retiring from coaching to become a Senior Football Consultant in Tampa Bay\u2019s front office.
