So Mark Wahlberg teaming up with Gibson to get his recent project, \u201cFather Stu,\u201d onto the big screen just made a lot of sense.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The \u201cBraveheart\u201d actor reflected to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/mel-gibson-mark-wahlberg-resistance-father-stu-faith\"><span>Fox News<\/span><\/a><span> on what made him want to get involved. \u201cYou know, I had a pretty big experience with \u2018The Passion,\u2019\u201d Gibson explained. \u201cThat was an interesting journey to understand that there\u2019s a real thirst for this kind of content out there. People want it, and they respond well to it. So it\u2019s a privilege to be a part of that delivery.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI think \u2018Father Stu\u2019 offers that,\u201d the actor continued. \u201cIt\u2019s a little different. I wouldn\u2019t really call it a faith-based film, but I think it hits all those cravings that the community wants. But at the same time, it\u2019s not preaching to the choir. It\u2019s got F-bombs, so you do have to weather those things to get to the jewel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cFather Stu\u201d tells the true story of an amateur boxer who suffered from a degenerative and incurable muscular disorder. He leaned on his faith during tough times and eventually, he became a priest, Father Stuart Long. Wahlberg was so inspired by the story that he chose to invest his own money to get the movie made. He also stars in it.<\/span><\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p><span>\u201cThe reason why [Father Stu] was so effective was because he was authentic,\u201d Wahlberg said of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/this-was-my-calling-mark-wahlberg-explains-why-father-stu-was-a-turning-point-for-him\"><span>inspiration for the film<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cHe was speaking the truth from experience, and that\u2019s invaluable \u2026 He\u2019s such a remarkable man. It was an honor for me to portray him in the film and to tell his story.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cPeople need to have faith and hope,\u201d he said during an interview with Fox in February. \u201cI just knew that I needed to make this movie, and this was my calling and this was my mission. And, now, it\u2019s needed more than ever.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cHopefully, it will do some really important work and help a lot of people,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt\u2019s certainly a turning point for me in my life. \u2026 I need to stop focusing so much on Mark and start doing much more work for God and for people and for people that are less fortunate people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to Fox, the Catholic church wasn\u2019t fully on board with how often the \u201cF-word\u201d is used during the course of the movie. Wahlberg insisted that using that type of language was authentic to the real story, however.
