The meth-related charges carried mandatory minimums of 20 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Buck had been exchanging drugs for sexual favors, which led to the overdose deaths of two black men in his West Hollywood, California, apartment. NBC News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/political-donor-ed-buck-sentenced-30-years-prison-2-overdose-deaths-ho-rcna24481\">reported<\/a> that prosecutors sought a life sentence for Buck, noting that he preyed on the vulnerable to fulfill his sexual fetish.<\/p>\n<p>His defense attorneys, on the other hand, asked for a sentence of less than 25 years, suggesting it could allow for rehabilitation and \u201cwould be much preferable to relegating him to death in prison.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cU.S. District Judge Christina A. Snyder said Thursday in downtown Los Angeles that the sentencing decision was difficult because she had to balance the good Buck did in his life with \u2018horrific crimes\u2019 that she called \u2018more than just an accident,\u2019\u201d NBC reported.<\/p>\n<p>Buck is known for donating heavily to Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, Ted Lieu, and Adam Schiff. The Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/projects\/ed-buck-donations\/\">reported<\/a> last year:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Since the mid 2000s,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2019-10-17\/ed-buck-west-hollywood-money-donations\">Buck has given more than $500,000 to political candidates and causes,<\/a>\u00a0almost all of them linked to the Democratic Party. Forty politicians now holding office in California, ranging from Los Angeles City Hall to Congress, have cashed a check from Buck.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Current officeholders have received more than $150,000 from Buck, including Gov. Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey and U.S. Reps. Ted Lieu and Adam B. Schiff. Some have returned the money.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The men who died at Buck\u2019s home were 26-year-old Gemmel Moore, who died in July 2017, and 55-year-old Timothy Dean, who died in January 2019. Moore\u2019s mother, LaTisha Nixon, reportedly \u201cquestioned whether Buck\u2019s ties to elected officials and differences in race and class influenced the investigation,\u201d the Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2019-09-17\/ed-buck-arrested-charged-with-drug-house\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/democrat-megadonor-ed-buck-convicted-of-exchanging-meth-for-sex-in-fatal-overdose-cases\">reported<\/a> at the time of his conviction, Buck \u201cwas arrested and charged in September 2019 with operating a drug house after a third black man nearly died of an overdose on methamphetamines he received from Buck.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEd Buck will never harm anyone else, and I thank God for that,\u201d Joyce Jackson, who traveled with her sister to join victim Dean\u2019s friends at Buck\u2019s trial, said after his conviction. \u201cOur lives matter, our community matters, and just because someone is unhoused, an addict, may be a survival sex worker, or an escort, or HIV positive does not mean their lives don\u2019t matter and we should look the other way when they show up dead in a white Democratic donor\u2019s home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies for breaking news, investigative reporting, sports, podcasts, in-depth analysis, books, and entertainment for a reason: because we believe in what we do.
