Now it\u2019s got to the point where there are kids presenting at clinics whose parents say, \u2018This just doesn\u2019t make sense.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Times noted that\u00a0Anderson believes some gender-confused kids are \u201cfalling under the influence of their peers and social media,\u201d adding that \u201csome clinicians are failing to subject minors to rigorous mental health evaluations before recommending hormones or surgeries.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"enhancement\" data-align-center=\"\" data-click=\"enhancement\">\n<p>\u201cWhat happens when the perfect storm \u2014 of social isolation, exponentially increased consumption of social media, the popularity of alternative identities \u2014 affects the actual development of individual kids?\u201d Anderson said. \u201cWe\u2019re sailing in uncharted seas.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cGiving over to hormones on demand will result in many more cases of poor outcomes and many more disappointed kids and parents who somehow came to believe that giving kids hormones would cure their other psychological problems,\u201d the trans psychologist continued. \u201cIt won\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From 2019 to 2020, the UC San Francisco adolescent gender center where Anderson works has increased its patient load by 162 kids, bringing the center to a total of\u00a0373 new patients by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson has been sounding the alarm on the issue since at least 2018, when the trans psychologist bluntly admitted identifying as trans had become \u201ctrendy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA fair number of kids are getting into it because it\u2019s trendy,\u201d Anderson <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220412101948\/https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national\/health-science\/when-kids-come-in-saying-they-are-transgender-or-no-gender-these-doctors-try-to-help\/2018\/01\/19\/f635e5fa-dac0-11e7-a841-2066faf731ef_story.html\">told<\/a>\u00a0The Washington Post. \u201cI think in our haste to be supportive, we\u2019re missing that element.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Republican-led states are working to stop the mutilation of gender-confused kids, the White House and leading Democrats have made it clear they will challenge the efforts.<\/p>\n<p>For example, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki last week said lawmakers who are working to protect minors from puberty blockers and transgender surgeries have been \u201cput on notice\u201d by the U.S. Department of Justice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlabama\u2019s lawmakers and other legislators who are contemplating these \u2026 discriminatory bills have been put on notice by the Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services that laws and policies preventing care that health care professionals recommend for transgender minors may violate the Constitution and federal law,\u201d Psaki <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/republican-lawmakers-protecting-kids-from-puberty-blockers-trans-surgeries-put-on-notice-by-doj\">said<\/a> at a press briefing.<\/p>\n<p>Psaki\u2019s comments were in reference to Alabama\u00a0banning doctors from mutilating children or putting them on puberty blockers if they \u201cidentify\u201d as the opposite sex, and advancing\u00a0parental rights by forbidding teachers\u2019 \u201cinstruction\u201d on sexuality and gender identity between kindergarten and fifth grade.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson claims both sides of the aisle are wrong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe people on the Right \u2026 and on the Left don\u2019t see themselves as extreme,\u201d Anderson said during the interview. \u201cBut those of us who see all the nuance can see that this is a false binary: Let it all happen without a method or don\u2019t let any pass.
