During a welfare check at around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, authorities discovered Sheila with a gunshot wound to the head and Ocie Sr. with multiple gunshot wounds at Sheila\u2019s apartment in the 1000 block of Chicago\u2019s West Montrose Ave., police said. Ocie Sr. sustained facial trauma as well, ABC Chicago <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7chicago.com\/chicago-shooting-uptown-berwyn-wilson-yard-senior-housing-complex\/11747354\/\">noted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Ocie Banks Sr. and his wife Sheila Banks found dead in Uptown apartment. CPD investigating as a homicide. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WGNNews?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@WGNNews<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/sM0v4dsgG3\">pic.twitter.com\/sM0v4dsgG3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dana Rebik (@DanaRebikWGN) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DanaRebikWGN\/status\/1513635674532024325?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 11, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Assistant State Attorney James Murphy said Ocie Jr. drove Ocie Sr. to a card party at Sheila\u2019s apartment on Friday, noting that Sheila already had a pair of neighbors over by the time the two men arrived, according to surveillance footage, CWB <a href=\"https:\/\/cwbchicago.com\/2022\/04\/14-man-killed-his-parents-in-an-uptown-senior-center-while-on-bond-for-federal-armed-robbery-and-gun-charges-prosecutors-say.html\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Though Sheila and Ocie Sr. did not reside together, their family said they were still married and spent plenty of time with one another, ABC Chicago said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Video from just after 3:00 a.m. Saturday allegedly shows Sheila ushering her friends to an elevator and subsequently returning to her unit, according to CWB. About three hours later, at 6:01 a.m., Ocie Jr. is seen exiting the apartment, Murphy said. He first appeared to lock his mother\u2019s door before leaving the building, according to Murphy.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">#14: Man killed his mother and father in an Uptown senior housing complex while on bond for federal gun and armed robbery charges, prosecutors say.<\/p>\n<p>His father is listed as the person who agreed to serve as &#8220;custodian&#8221; to get him out of federal custody.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ricMJNoWtl\">https:\/\/t.co\/ricMJNoWtl<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CWBChicago (@CWBChicago) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CWBChicago\/status\/1514664152542814209?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 14, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>CWB reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>No one else entered the fourth-floor apartment until the Bankses were found dead the next evening, according to Murphy. Chicago police discovered the couple after Ocie Banks Jr. asked them to do a well-being check because they could not contact the couple, said Murphy. The son and other family members were present when police arrived at Wilson Yard.<\/p>\n<p>Officers found Ocie Banks, Sr. lying face down in the bed with gunshot wounds to his forehead and back. Sheila Banks was lying next to him in bed with a gunshot wound to her temple. Murphy said police found no firearms or shell casings in the apartment and there were no signs of robbery.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Chicago police said Ocie Jr. was identified as the suspect in the double homicide and was arrested Tuesday in West Belmont Ave\u2019s 2400 block, ABC Chicago reported.<\/p>\n<p>CWB noted that Ocie Jr. was indicted by the Justice Department in January.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>On January 21, the Justice Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-ndil\/pr\/federal-grand-jury-indicts-man-connection-armed-robberies-suburban-chicago-cell-phone\">announced<\/a> that Ocie Jr. was indicted \u201cfor allegedly robbing cell phone stores in the Chicago suburbs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Banks allegedly wielded a firearm during three robberies and one attempted robbery that took place in Cicero and Berwyn between the end of 2020 and early 2021, the Justice Department asserted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">He was indicted on \u201cthree counts of robbery, one count of attempted robbery, and four counts of using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence,\u201d the release says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">According to CWB:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">U.S. Magistrate Judge Gabriel Fuentes allowed Banks to go home on a $10,000 appearance bond after his father agreed to serve as the third-party custodian on January 20, court records show. Authorities released the younger Banks from custody even though his father was not present at the court hearing, according to the documents.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Martha Pacold issued a warrant for the alleged murderer\u2019s arrest for pretrial infractions while also revoking the bond conditions, according to CWB.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">While speaking with ABC Chicago, the couple\u2019s niece,\u00a0LaToya Hambrick, detailed the heartbreaking losses the family is enduring:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">We\u2019re just devastated. We\u2019re at a loss for words. I can\u2019t imagine \u2014 talking to her every day, she had so much joy in her voice. \u2018Oh niece, I\u2019m about to retire; I\u2019m so excited. She was excited about her upcoming life, just life in general. She had a wonderful life. She always worked.
