Some dosages of Sildenafil are used to treat erectile dysfunction. The lawmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/veja.abril.com.br\/coluna\/radar\/governo-bolsonaro-compra-35-mil-comprimidos-de-viagra-deputado-investiga\/\">demanded<\/a> the Defense Ministry explain the purchase, conducted with taxpayers\u2019 dollars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to understand why the Bolsonaro government is spending public money to buy Viagra in such a high quantity,\u201d Vaz <a href=\"https:\/\/veja.abril.com.br\/coluna\/radar\/governo-bolsonaro-compra-35-mil-comprimidos-de-viagra-deputado-investiga\/\">said<\/a>. \u201cHealth units throughout the entire country are frequently facing shortages of medicine, in insulin, to treat patients with chronic illnesses, and the Armed Forces are receiving thousands of Viagra pills. Society deserves an explanation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Brazilian Navy and Air Force responded to the demands for an explanation by claiming the medicine was meant to treat patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension, an approved use for Sildenafil. Brazil\u2019s\u00a0<em>O Globo<\/em> newspaper <a href=\"https:\/\/oglobo.globo.com\/saude\/medicina\/forcas-armadas-aprovam-compra-de-viagra-para-hipertensao-arterial-pulmonar-remedio-indicado-para-doenca-25471161?utm_source=Twitter&#038;utm_medium=Social&#038;utm_campaign=compartilhar\">reported<\/a> on Tuesday, however, that the information released by Vaz\u2019s request shows the pills purchased were 25- or 50-milligram doses.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph\">\u201cSildenafil is approved \u2026 for pulmonary arterial hypertension at a dose of 20 milligrams, which can be prescribed for eight hours a day up to a maximum of four tablets every eight hours,\u201d pulmonologist\u00a0Veronica Amado told\u00a0<em>O Globo<\/em>. \u201cUsing 25-milligram doses (like Viagra\u2019s) doesn\u2019t have grave health impacts, however, this is a programming and dosage different from that which has been studied, with doses exceeding or lower than those recommended.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The package insert with Sildenafil of all brands in Brazil reportedly recommends the higher-dosage pills only for treating erectile dysfunction.<\/p>\n<p>Vaz revealed another medical purchase on Wednesday for which he demanded an explanation from the Armed Forces: 60 penile implants worth, he claimed, $744,680 (3.5 million Brazilian reais).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4713401\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/brazil-army-soldiers-ap-image.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4713401\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/brazil-army-soldiers-ap-image.jpg\" alt=\"FILE - In this July 22, 2016 photo, Brazilian Army soldiers take part in military exercise during presentation of the security forces for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, in front of the National Stadium, in Brasilia, Brazil. Parallel to that, also, that same remedy worked for rheumatological diseases and, as a collateral effect, something showed up there that combats sexual impotence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"content-text__container\" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">\u201cThis was later known as Viagra,\u201d the president concluded. \u201cTherefore, the Armed Forces buy Viagra to fight\u00a0pulmonary arterial hypertension and rheumatological disease.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph\">Bolsonaro also condemned the \u201cbad-faith\u201d and \u201cignorant\u201d Brazilian media for allegedly attempting to create a scandal and <a href=\"https:\/\/scc10.com.br\/politica\/nao-e-nada-diz-bolsonaro-sobre-compra-de-remedios-viagra-pelo-exercito\/\">insisted<\/a>\u00a0the purchases were likely for inactive reservists or retirees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\">The president has not, at press time, addressed the alleged penile implant purchases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\">The latest attempt from the left to attack Bolsonaro comes in an election year. Bolsonaro will likely reach a run-off vote against far-left socialist former President Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva. Lula, whose tenure was largely defined by the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2017\/jun\/01\/brazil-operation-car-wash-is-this-the-biggest-corruption-scandal-in-history\">Operation Car Wash<\/a>\u201d corruption scandal, could not participate in the 2018 election that made Bolsonaro president because he had been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/latin-america\/2019\/02\/07\/brazil-sentences-socialist-ex-president-lula-to-another-13-years-in-prison-bringing-total-to-25\/\">sentenced<\/a> to over a decade in prison for buying a luxury beachfront property with government funds.
