Andy Beshear\u2019s veto on Wednesday and passed a bill protecting women\u2019s and girls\u2019 sports from the transgender activist agenda.<\/p>\n<p>The state Senate <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.legislature.ky.gov\/record\/22rs\/sb83.html\">voted<\/a> 29-8, and the state House voted 72-23 to override Beshear\u2019s veto \u2014 the law, officially named the Fairness in Women\u2019s Sports Act or <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.legislature.ky.gov\/recorddocuments\/bill\/22RS\/sb83\/bill.pdf\">SB83<\/a>, will take effect immediately. Kentucky is the sixth state to enact such a law in 2022 and the 15th overall, NBC News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/nbc-out\/out-politics-and-policy\/kentucky-legislature-overrides-governors-veto-transgender-sports-ban-rcna24303\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThis is a huge win for the integrity of women\u2019s sports and with the inevitable enactment of Senate Bill 83 into law,\u201d bill co-sponsor Republican state Sen. Robby Mills said\u00a0after the vote. \u201cKentucky is a leading voice for female athletes across the nation. The Kentucky General Assembly stands in support of female athletes everywhere as they work hard to achieve their goals and dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Beshear vetoed the legislation last week, saying the bill is \u201cmost likely\u201d unconstitutional because it \u201cdiscriminates\u201d against children who believe they are transgender, the report states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The legislation prohibits\u00a0men who identify as women from participating in girls\u2019 and women\u2019s sports from sixth grade through college. In addition, the legislation would require students to have an original, unedited copy of their birth certificate or a signed affidavit from a medical practitioner. However, the bill does not restrict who can participate in coed or boys\u2019 or men\u2019s teams.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>While the law does not contain language that would give students the green light to sue their school for damages if it breaks the law, it mandates that governments, licensing or accrediting organizations, and athletic associations are barred from taking adverse action or opening investigations.<\/p>\n<p>GOP-led states have been leading the charge against the far-left idea that people can \u201cchoose their gender,\u201d as well as the scientifically false notion that men who identify as women do not have a biological advantage over women. The debate reached a pinnacle when University of Pennsylvania Swimmer \u201cLia\u201d Thomas, a man identifying as a woman, began snagging titles from actual female athletes while swimming for the women\u2019s swim team.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Screenshot-17-640x480-1.jpg\" alt=\"Lia Thomas\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Transgender swimmer UPenn swimmer Lia Thomas (Screenshot)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Just recently, a group of Olympic and NCAA champions joined together to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/sports\/2022\/04\/10\/do-we-have-voice-olympic-ncaa-champions-demand-ncaa-protect-womens-sports\/\">\u00a0release<\/a>\u00a0a letter demanding action to protect women\u2019s sports in the wake of Thomas\u2019 major victories.\u00a0Nearly 40 retired swimmers, including several Olympians, former NCAA champions, and even a USA Swimming team director, and others, all\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/sports\/more-sports\/olympic-and-ncaa-champions-demand-action-to-protect-women-s-swimming-says-ncaa-s-response-is-not-good-enough\/ar-AAW3oRn?ocid=msedgntp&#038;cvid=1fa452b5c7864e2cbbdd4c928a6a3e39\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">raise<\/a>\u00a0serious questions about the NCAA\u2019s rules governing transgender athletes, according to MSN.com.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Lia Thomas just took first place at the 2022 NCAA Division 1 Women&#8217;s Swimming &#038; Diving Championships in the 500 freestyle. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SaveWomensSports?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SaveWomensSports<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/UWvDQMYHRJ\">pic.twitter.com\/UWvDQMYHRJ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Colin Wright (@SwipeWright) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SwipeWright\/status\/1504586948400369671?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 17, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard to express the anguish the women\u2019s swim community has experienced this past week watching the 2022 NCAA Swim &#038; Dive Championships,\u201d the letter states.<\/p>\n<p>Former NCAA champion Marshi Smith told Fox News that the group decided to speak out now because \u201cindividually we felt like we didn\u2019t have a voice. We weren\u2019t being asked our opinions or possible solutions to what was going on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Kentucky state legislature also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/04\/14\/kentucky-legislature-overrides-democrat-governors-veto-passes-15-week-abortion-ban\/\">voted<\/a> on Wednesday to override another of Beshear\u2019s vetoes, passing a law that bans abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p><em>Katherine Hamilton is a political reporter for Breitbart News.
