It seems like just yesterday that Boot was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/opinion\/why-winning-and-losing-are-irrelevant-in-syria-and-afghanistan\/\">fist-pumping forever wars<\/a>, supporting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/SB10001424052702303661904576451913355531024\">deadly war in Libya<\/a>, pushing for the United States to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weeklystandard.com\/max-boot\/the-case-for-american-empire\">invade and occupy Iraq<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/03\/27\/biden-warsaw-speech-pitch-perfect-analysis\/\">covering for President Biden<\/a> calling for regime change in Russia. <\/p>\n<p>Today, the very serious thinker had a public nervous breakdown about how \u201cfrightened\u201d he is that Twitter could soon be controlled by Musk (something that\u2019s already been characterized in fighting terms such as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AnandWrites\/status\/1514566790654824449?s=20&#038;t=RWxfYek0em-ds2DMF5XQZA\">invader<\/a>.\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am frightened by the impact on society and politics if Elon Musk acquires Twitter,\u201d Boot <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MaxBoot\/status\/1514570168730636290\">hyperventilated<\/a>. \u201cHe seems to believe that on social media anything goes. For democracy to survive, we need more content moderation, not less.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"566\" height=\"301\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Screen-Shot-2022-04-14-at-3.35.20-PM.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-270763\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Screen-Shot-2022-04-14-at-3.35.20-PM.png 566w, https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Screen-Shot-2022-04-14-at-3.35.20-PM-300x160.png 300w\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Just to clear things up, by \u201cimpact on society and politics,\u201d Boot means \u201cimpact on election outcomes for Democrats.\u201d By \u201cif Elon Musk acquired Twitter,\u201d he means \u201cif Parag Agrawal no longer has the power to nuke political opponents.\u201d By \u201canything goes,\u201d he means \u201cfree speech.\u201d And by \u201ccontent moderation,\u201d he means, \u201cideological censorship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the full translation: \u201cI am frightened by the impact on election outcomes for Democrats if Parag Agrawal no longer has the power to nuke political opponents. Elon Musk seems to believe that on social media free speech is OK. For <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/11\/05\/max-boot-failed-us-despite-his-best-columns-democracy-died\/\">democracy to survive<\/a>, we need more ideological censorship, not less.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boy, Boot is really against Musk\u2019s invasion of Twitter. It\u2019s actually the first time the neocon has ever opposed a full-scale takeover, which the Tesla CEO\u2019s $43 billion offer would represent. Though I suppose it makes sense when you consider how peaceful and non-aggressive Musk\u2019s paperwork proposal was and how smooth the deal will continue to be if Twitter actually sells <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/joshdcaplan\/status\/1514663849902940163?s=12&#038;t=wZip2XO2T5ikYdfjzs14Fw\">instead of suicide-bombing itself<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Not that anyone has ever needed Boot\u2019s endorsement (it sure <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/the-fix\/wp\/2016\/06\/30\/heres-the-growing-list-of-big-name-republicans-supporting-hillary-clinton\/\">didn\u2019t help<\/a> Hillary Clinton any!), but if Musk had wanted it, all he would have had to do was declare war on Twitter with a Silicon Valley ground invasion, carpet-bomb its headquarters, snipe some civilian families in the vicinity, and behead a few women in the street. <\/p>\n<p>As The Federalist\u2019s CEO Sean Davis <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/seanmdav\/status\/1514595747982983172?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1514595747982983172%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fthefederalist.com%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost.php%3Fpost%3D270701action%3Dedit\">said<\/a>, \u201cBoot only supports hostile takeovers with body counts. Peaceful negotiations with no loss of life bore him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No wonder Boot isn\u2019t into the whole Twitter buy-out thing. Not only could it allow his opponents to say what was on their minds without fear of being whisked away to Twitter jail, but it would be just too peaceful of a takeover, what with all its negotiations and whatnot. Looks like the neocon finally found an invasion he can oppose.
